Sony's PlayStation 4 Slim is rumored to become available later this year. The slimmer version of PS4 is said to boast revamped design and powerful internals. On the other hand, Microsoft's recently released Xbox One S is poised to be PS4 Slim's biggest rival. Now, let's find out which is the best option for gamers: PS4 Slim or Xbox One S?
A report from The Wall Street Journal says the slimmer PlayStation 4 will become available next month. Dubbed as PS4 Slim, the console is expected to be lighter and thinner than the current PS4 console.
Based on the leaked pictures, PS4 Slim sports a matte finish and has a 500GB inside. It also rumored to have High Dynamic Range support to stand toe-to-toe against Xbox One S. The same source from The Wall Street Journal claims the slimmer model would replace the current PS4 model as the standard version of the console.
In addition to a reworked design, the slim PS4 comes with an updated controller, according to a report from GameSpot. The console's new gamepad features light bar on the front, right above the touchpad. The light bar will apparently help players to see light notifications easily.
As of now, the full specs and features of PS4 Slim are not yet available. We expect to hear more from Sony in the next couple of days. It is reported that company would launch the console at the PlayStation Theater in New York on Sept. 7.
The PS4 Slim would be less expensive than the current PS4. Estimates show the slimmer console will be priced around $330.
Now, let's check out the features of Xbox One S, which was released earlier this month. The slimmer Xbox One offers High Dynamic Range gaming. It does not have 4K support, but buyers will notice improvements in the graphics department.
Furthermore, The Verge describes the console as "svelte and good-looking" hardware. Sony says the console is 40% slimmer than the standard Xbox One. Buyers can save much more space because the console comes with a vertical stand. Also, the power supply is tucked inside, so users don't have to use the bricked-shaped power supply.
Similar to PS4 Slim, Xbox One S has redesigned controller. The revamped controllers feature a sleek design and textured grip on the handles. They also have longer range compare to controllers of standard Xbox One.
Xbox One S is now available. The base price of the console starts at $299.
