The Houston Texans are making great strides in the preseason games especially in breaking in newly signed quarterback Brock Osweiler who once played for Super Bowl winners Denver Broncos as a Peyton Manning backup. However, a JJ Watt injury now puts fear in the hearts of their fans. Will the said Joey Bosa trade be the answer to their prayers?
The Joey Bosa vs San Diego Chargers contract dispute has yet to be resettled. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the rookie defensive end is now subjected to NFL trade rumors. While the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are anticipated to make a run for the star, it looks like the Houston Texans beat them to it.
With the JJ Watt injury scaring the Houston Texans into thinking that they could lose the defensive end in the regular season - a situation that seemed impossible in the past - fans are calling for a Joey Bosa trade. Dubbed as the JJ Watt 2.0 during the NFL draft season, the former Ohio State leader could be the perfect backup for the veteran football star.
"J.J. Watt obviously will not be back this week, but he's making a lot of progress in his rehab," shared Bill O'Brien of the status of JJ Watt. The Houston Texans head coach added, "I just don't think anybody can predict when J.J. will be back. I would say knowing J.J. the way I do that he'll be back sooner rather than later. It's progressing really well. He's been able to do some things on the Ultra-G treadmill, which is a really good sign."
O'Brien further noted, "As you guys would expect, J.J. is really wanting to do a lot more and doing a good job of following the doctors' orders. We feel good about where he's at relative to the beginning of the season."
Although the progress report for JJ Watt seems promising, the Houston Texans are still urged to consider the Joey Bosa trade. The rookie is expected to serve as a sturdy backup to the more experienced defensive end. Meanwhile, JJ Watt can easily serve as a mentor to the young star already initially determined to become his successor.
At this point, no comment has been given by any of the parties involved. While a Joey Bosa trade appears to be the best move to appease the rookie from his issues with the San Diego Chargers, the Houston Texans have yet to truly make an offer. Right now, the Brock Osweiler squad is focused on the recovery of JJ Watt and training for the preseason games.
