Android is one oft those things that is constantly changing, and even some of the newer Android devices don't have the latest of Android M (also known as version 6.0 or Marshmallow). The thing is the latest version was announced this summer with Android Nougat (also known as Android N or version 7.0), so it should be coming to some newer devices, if it is available. This is the latest news for Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow and Android Nougat Release Date for Sony Xperia Z5, Z4, Z3, and Z2 on Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, US Cellular, and Verizon.
There has not really been any update on Sony and their updates to Android this week, but perhaps it is better to look ahead and figure out when Nougat will be coming to Sony products. If I have to make a guess, I would say that it will come...later. Seriously, I'm going to have to say that Sony is pretty much the last manufacturer of Android devices to get the latest version of Android out. So, if you want it, be prepared to wait after 2017's winter has ended, perhaps spring of 2017.
So what will be the first Sony devices to receive Android Nougat? Chances are, it will be the aforementioned Sony Xperia X devices first. Given that the newer Android devices receive the upgrade first, it will probably happen in this order: Z5-branded series (Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, and the simple Z5), then the Z4 tablet, and the Z3 series. The Z3 series is pretty popular, so it would not be surprising if Nougat comes there. Sort of like how the Z1 series won't be getting Marshmallow, it will be unlikely that the Z2 will get Nougat.
As far as what devices of Sony have it out now, the Xperia Z5 series (Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium) has it. That is the current flagship of phones with the exception of the X series, and many of these phones have Marshmallow right out of the packaging. Then there is the Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, and Xperia Z2. There are plans for an upgrade to the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia M4 Aqua, and the Xperia M5. While the Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact will not be getting the upgrade, there are confirmed plans for the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia C4.
If you are a Sony user of a newer device in the United States, your best bet is to see if you can't get the OTA (Over The Air) download of Android Marshmallow now. Just go into the "Settings" and "System Update" to see if the upgrade is available. The upgrade may not be available depending on your carrier like T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, AT&T, and Verizon.
