The issue with the Star Wars franchise is that it develops from both ends. When Disney bought the rights to it, they didn't just want to make Episode VII and beyond, they want to make films that take place in between the prequels, and even before the prequels. This holiday season is going to be the introduction of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story taking place between episode III and IV, but there will be more happening with a young Han Solo movie and a young Boba Fett film.
By now, most of the world knows about the new trailer for Rogue One, and it does give a lot of information about particulars about the film. The new trailer went viral at a rate of 25:1, compared to the 10:1 rate of an average movie trailer, according to Screen Rant. It appears that the main storyline is looking similar to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens as it focuses around a female protagonist. This would be Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones.
There are other characters seen such as Saw Gerrera, played by Forrest Whitaker. We have reported earlier that he was introduced on The Clone Wars, which means that the computer animated TV series has become canon. There are other characters introduced like the giant droid K-2SO, voiced by Alan Tudyk, who is now a veteran Disney voice actor.
Of course, the big tease at the end of the trailer was a shot of Darth Vader, with the trademark heavy breathing. This is similar to the tease at the end of the first of X-Men Apocalypse with the shot of Wolverine.
The Young Han Solo Film
So, we all know about the young Han Solo film, and how Alden Ehrenreich will be playing the character made famous by Harrison Ford. However, other than just Han Solo, what will this film have?
This is what I believe it will be. We are going to see Han Solo as a young boy, working with the space pirates, and he will be told that he will not amount to anything. Maybe he will get his trademark vest, like Indiana Jones got his hat at a young age. Then this will happen in some order:
-
Han will meet Chewbacca. He will do something to save his life, as Chewbacca seems to be completely devoted to Han. In some Star Wars stories like the Holiday Special, Chewie even has a family that he leaves at home to help his smuggler friend. I figured that Chewie had some special bond with Han that was never explained, until now.
-
Han will meet Lando. There is a report in the Independent saying that Donald Glover, a famed comedian from Community, could play the iconic role made by Billy Dee Williams. Chances are, these two young men will get into a squabble over a certain iconic spaceship.
-
Han will get the Millennium Falcon! Han said in The Empire Strikes Back that Han "won her fair and square" referring to the Millennium Falcon space freighter. Did they gamble over it? Could this be the main plot of the young Han Solo film?
The Young Boba Fett Film
Of course, there is going to be some interesting things going on with the film about the fan-favorite bounty hunter. This is what people want to see:
-
This film will open with Boba Fett at the funeral of his father, Jango Fett. The last time young Boba Fett was seen, he was holding the severed head of his "father", as Boba is apparently a clone. Young Boba Fett will swear a life of vengeance.
-
Boba Fett then goes on a huge revenge journey that will seal his status as the baddest bounty hunter in the universe. Perhaps he will gain a reputation for disintegrating his targets, as Vader himself specified this when he sent Fett after Han Solo back in The Empire Strikes Back.
-
Boba Fett will free himself from the Sarlacc, and will be invited back into post Return of the Jedi films. Many fans of these films see his death resulting in Han Solo killing him by accident as a terrible injustice for this character. Back when Star Wars lived in its expanded universe of books and comics, Boba Fett was revealed to be alive.
So, all of this is going to be definitely planting seeds for Star Wars Episode VIII. As for what is going to happen there, watch out for fan-theories about Rey being related to Luke Skywalker and all that. Perhaps the return of Boba Fett, Lando Calrissian, and some other things brought up in the Young Han Solo and Boba Fett films? Believe me when I say to you that it is all connected.
