The Tim Duncan retirement announcement has left a void in the San Antonio Spurs roster. While Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Danny Green gear up to take the place of the Big Three, which include Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, head coach Gregg Popovich is searching for NBA All-Star players to help the team beat the Golden State Warriors super team composed of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. As the offseason heats up, the San Antonio Spurs is said to be expected to announce their latest acquisition: Rudy Gay.
The Sacramento Kings have been facing trade talks since the offseason started. As Rajon Rondo joins the Chicago Bulls with Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler, fans expect DeMarcus Cousins to go next. However, the Rudy Gay trade rumors are the most widely reported in the league. The NBA veteran, who signed with the Sacramento Kings with the expectation that he will become the franchise face, is anticipated to don the San Antonio Spurs uniform next season.
Rudy Gay has been known for his ability to carry the team and score in crucial moments of games. However, his efforts in the Sacramento Kings last NBA season seemed to have been all for naught since the DeMarcus Cousins squad was reportedly misguided throughout the matches. Moreover, the basketball team is said to be heading to a different direction and the changes in the coaching staff are clear indicators of these adjustments. Does this mean that a Rudy Gay trade is truly expected this NBA offseason?
"For some time, the Kings have been active in the trade market trying not only to trade out awkward fitting pieces, but also trying to right the ship in terms of personalities that may not be totally bought into the plan," disclosed Steve Kyler of the Basketball Insider. He added, "For weeks, there has been talk that Kings forward Rudy Gay could be had in trade and that despite his ability to be an unrestricted free agent next summer, there are many around the league who believe the Kings will not only move Gay, but that it could happen before training camp starts."
Kyler further shared, "There is a sense among league insiders that the Kings are not looking for a ton in return for Gay, so that may make finding a deal a little easier even with all the issues surrounding a deal."
At 29, Rudy Gay hopes to finally be settled in an NBA team. Given the culture and structure of the San Antonio Spurs, wherein stars like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker have spent practically decades in their basketball career, the Kawhi Leonard team appears to be an attractive landing spot for the Sacramento Kings star. At this point though, the concerned parties have yet to officially comment on the NBA trade rumor.
What do you think? Will a Rudy Gay trade to the San Antonio Spurs help Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Danny Green beat Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors?
