If you have ever read C.S. Lewis The Chronicles of Narnia series, then you probably know that the first three books have been adapted into major motion pictures. The fourth book, The Silver Chair, is apparently in the works, and this is what is known about the release date and news.
According to CinemaBlend, Tri-Star Pictures is going to be the next one to carry on The Chronicles of Narnia legacy. For those that remember, as it has been six years since the release of Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the next film from the book series is The Silver Chair.
Just to let you know, this is the third studio to have rights to C.S. Lewis' series. Initially, Disney put out The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe back in 2005, and then brought the second book of Prince Caspian in 2008. Apparently, the second film adaptation didn't do so well, and so 20th Century Fox took over the franchise for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and that was six years ago.
It seems that the series has gone on a decline. Personally, I think that Disney's first adaptation of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was very accurate to the source material, and any added scenes served to benefit the adaptation. As for Prince Caspian, the film adaptation took too many creative liberties and added too many unnecessary scenes, and it failed to capture the spirit of the book.
By the time that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader came out, it took a huge departure from the book. I can see why, as the book essentially has the main characters going from one island to the other in a series of very unrelated adventures. The movie tried to tie all these island trips together, and it did not work out very well.
However, I believe that it is possible that The Silver Chair could put the movie series back on track. The film is essentially in the form of a quest, which should be easily adaptable. As far as the original cast from the series, only Eustace will have to return. Chances are, this actor from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is too old for the role.
So far, there isn't any news about the release date for this fourth film. After this film, the next in line for adaptation is The Horse and His Boy, which doesn't require any returning cast members but the voice of Aslan, who should hopefully be Liam Neeson again. Then there is the sixth book for The Magician's Nephew, which is a prequel taking place before the first book, which would probably require Tilda Swinton to return. As far as The Last Battle movie is concerned, this requires a return of most of the original cast.
