At his own request, Nick Foles was put back on the market by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week. While rumors are rife that teams like the Denver Broncos want him as a backup for Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets eye him for the role almost vacated by Ryan Fitzpatrick, fans believe that the free agent might be a better fit with the Dallas Cowboys. Should the Jerry Jones team move to land their rival squad's leader last NFL season?
The answer remains uncertain. However, the health risks of Tony Romo still looms above the Dallas Cowboys. Without a quarterback who can lead the group as effectively as Romo, the Dez Bryant squad fear a repeat of their heartbreaking 2015-16 NFL season.
"The goal certainly is for him to play 16 games. But he's 36 this season, not 26. Every time he gets hit, the Dallas sideline will be holding its breath," noted Nick Gosselin of Tony Romo. The Sports Day analyst added, "The more the Cowboys run the ball, the better the chance for his survival. The Cowboys took 100 passes off his plate in 2014 and he won his only NFL passing title and the Cowboys finished 12-4. I've always said, the less Romo throws, the more I like him. If Elliott can give this offense what DeMarco Murray provided in 2014, I can see Romo playing all 16 games."
At the moment, the Dallas Cowboys and Nick Foles have yet to comment on the possibility of them working together next season. The only certain factor appears to be the determination of Tony Romo to carry the Dez Bryant squad to the Super Bowl soon. Despite his injuries, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback remains optimistic of their chances in the next NFL season.
"It's not the time to look back. You're continuing to go forward. You learn what you learn, and you evolve," said Tony Romo of his situation with the Dallas Cowboys. He added, "I think what you find over time, my job is to continue to get better, so if our team is better or worse, that doesn't affect our chances, I just need to get better. If we're not quite as good, OK, we still have a chance. If we're really good, then we're definitely going to compete for championships. We know what our goal is. We know what our aspirations are and what achievement means in this sport. And that's why we do what we do."
