The Green Bay Packers faced a devastating loss even before the 2015-16 NFL season started when Jordy Nelson went down with an injury in the preseason games. To add to their woes at the time, the Aaron Rodgers team also saw a heavier Eddie Lacy who eventually cost the team too many games due to his size and reduced speed. In an effort to avoid the same problems in the upcoming NFL season, the Green Bay Packers are said to sign a deal with Ray Rice to add another strong player in the roster.
Ray Rice was thrown under the spotlight in 2014 when a controversial video of him and then fiancee Janay Palmer surfaced. The clip showed the then Baltimore Ravens star punching Palmer in what seemed to be a heated argument inside an elevator. Following the release of the Ray Rice elevator video, the running back was dropped by the NFL team and had been out of job in the football community ever since. The Baltimore Ravens signed Ray Rice in 2008.
At the moment, rumors are rife that the Green Bay Packers are mulling over a Ray Rice NFL contract. While the recent development with Eddie Lacy has been promising, the Aron Rodgers team appears to be looking for ways to secure their standing in the league. That is, the Green Bay Packers want a solid backup plan just in case Lacy falls back inhis old ways.
Prior to his domestic violence issues, Ray Rice had been one of the best running backs in the NFL. However, his problems outside the gridiron later on got the better of him and led to the end of his football career. Hence, fans now wonder if the Green Bay Packers can capitalize on this situation.
"Put it like this: I don't know when the years of ranking where I was a top-15 NFL player, but you don't fall off that fast," shared Ray Rice. He added, "If I'm that bad, bring me in for a tryout. That's the way to go about it. Bring me in for a tryout and then let the rest of the chips fall where they belong, because we know the simple fact that I can't get a tryout - it's a different deal."
Understandably, some members of the NFL community and fans are still wary of letting Ray Rice back in the league. Rumors are rife that Jordy Nelson and Aaron Rodgers are uncomfortable with letting the former Baltimore Raves running back in their roster. However, Rice is said to have turned over a new leaf and is now a changed man.
"Ray has taken a number of positive steps, including meeting with domestic violence organizations and seeking ongoing and continuous counsel for he and his family," revealedAnna Isaacson. The NFL's vice president of social responsibility further noted, "He has demonstrated a desire over the last two years to share how his choices have impacted him so that others, particularly youth, may learn from it."
