The Kevin Durant free agency campaign may have been ended by the Golden State Warriors but it does not mean that the Stephen Curry squad is done with surprise deals this NBA offseason. The next target to join Draymond Green and Klay Thompson is Minnesota Timberwolves star Ricky Rubio. While the Karl-Anthony Towns team denies the NBA trade rumors involving Rubio, the Golden State Warriors are said to be quietly sealing the deal this offseason.
The Ricky Rubio trade talks started when the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Kris Dunn. With another NBA star possibly taking over the spotlight from Rubio, the Kevin Garnet squad is said to be looking into ways to move their Spanish leader. Moreover, Ricky Rubio is reported to no longer fit the style that would soon focus on Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Karl-Anthony Towns and Dunn. Hence, the 25-year-old point guard is now reportedly used a valuable trading chip by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Among the potential takers in the NBA are the Golden State Warriors - a team that managed to lure Kevin Durant in their roster. Going on for so long without a legitimate championship shot, Ricky Rubio might just be the next All-Star to join the ranks of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the Dub Nation.
Could this be true? Will the Minnesota Timberwolves agree to sending Ricky Rubio to the Golden State Warriors? Will the Kevin Durant soon welcome the Spanish star as a newly minted member of the Stephen Curry team?
The answer is in the negative. In the latest comments of Glen Taylor on the future of Ricky Rubio with the team, it has become apparent that Karl-Anthony Towns and company will be with the Spanish star for a very long time.
"I don't see that as a likely possibility," said Taylor of the Ricky Rubio trade possibilities. The Minnesota Timberwolves franchise owner added, "I just think the coach, everybody, likes Ricky. I think we want him to come in and improve on his shooting. But his other things, he plays defense, he gets assists, he helps the others get better. He has some wonderful qualities."
Moreover, Taylor noted that new head coach Tom Thibodeau likes the 25-year-old point guard. This piece of information further nullified all the Ricky Rubio trade rumors going around the league for the past months. Taylor also clarified that although Dunn has potential, the Minnesota Timberwolves still believe that Rubio is their go-to man.
Taylor revealed, "I think the coach wants to bring an assistant coach to help Ricky on his shooting and I think that's where we're going to start out and go and we'll see how good Kris Dunn is."
