Samurai Jack was a show on the Cartoon Network created by now master animator Genndy Tartakovsky. The show was about a samurai warrior who faced a supernatural force known as Aku. In their first encounter, Jack uses his magical blade to slay Aku, but the master of evil cast a spell to send Jack forward in time. The show lasted four seasons as Jack journeyed through incredible places in a future world with an amazing art style, but the show didn't have any closure. That will change as Season 5 of Samurai Jack is coming back to the Cartoon Network, and this is what is known about the season and its release date.
There is a video below showing Genndy and the shows creators talking about making the fifth season. They don't reveal anything but a lot of vague stuff, but it shows that it is in good hands with Adult Swim. Genndy doesn't say whether or not the show will get very bloody like other Adult Swim content, but it will go in a dark direction.
If you remember the show, Jack was always playing the role of essentially a perfect hero. He would without hesitation throw himself into danger to help out oppressed people, but Season 5 Samurai Jack is going to be a little lost. Jack will have changed his look, as he will have a "Dollar Shave Club" beard.
As I said before, there is nothing to be shown on the footage, but the look of the film will be hand-painted digital. If you are not familiar with the show, it has a very minimal look to the backgrounds that looked very hand-painted. Samurai Jack Season 5 will have those same types of backgrounds, but they will be rendered digitally for the most part. Hopefully, this will not change the tone of the show that worked so well for the first four seasons.
There is a change with as Mako will not providing the voice of Aku, as the actor died in 2006. There is a replacement for him, but Phil LaMarr will be reprising his role as Jack.
What isn't known is whether or not Season 5 will be the last season of Samurai Jack. Personally, I liked the show, and I was disappointed that there was no closure in Season 4. We never found out if Jack was able to defeat Aku, and somehow find a time portal into the past so he can live some normal, non-warrior's life. The final episode of Season 4 dealt with Jack taking care of a baby, which was at best mediocre.
We also don't have a specific release date for the show, as CinemaBlend states that it could show up later in 2016 or perhaps in 2017. Let's hope that it will be worth the wait.
