Oklahoma's Republican Governor Mary Fallin vetoed the bill that would have made performing an abortion a felony and is a basis for revoking the license of the performing doctor despite her pro-life stance.
This as two-time Emmy Award -winning actress Patricia Heaton got bullied in social media for her pro-life posts in her tweeter account.
The issue of abortion has long divided the American society, and.had the bill been approved Oklahoma would have been the first to use its professional code of conduct to implement a measure that would effectively serve as an abortion ban.
Fallin justified her veto of the bill saying it cannot withstand a criminal constitutional legal challenge because it is full of ambiguity.
"It is so vague that doctors cannot be certain what medical circumstances would be considered 'necessary to preserve the life of the mother,'" Fallin, who is known as the most pro-life governor in the US, said.
Had Fallin also approved the bill her cash-strapped state would be locked in a legal battle with abortion rights activists who had earlier made a promise to oppose it and give the state a hard time in court.
Supporters of the bill argued the measure could withstand a legal fight because Oklahoma was within its rights to set licensing requirement for the doctor.
Oklahoma is among the states that added restrictions to abortions from the time Fallin took office in 2011.
Legal experts have said the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that abortion is legal in the United States, and Oklahoma must abide by the court's decision.
"Governor Fallin did the right thing today in vetoing this utterly unconstitutional and dangerous bill," said Nancy Northup, president and chief executive officer of the Center for Reproductive Rights, an abortion-rights group.
Heaton, on the other hand, gained heat from her post: "choose, celebrate, support Life! Thanks Northwest Center". The center was a pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Washington D.C
"Thank you for standing up for life. Life is beautiful especially when everyone else mind their business and stays out of the woman's uterus! Mind your business!" Wrote Karen Ann Mahoney.
