‘Star vs.The Forces of Evil’ Season 2 and 3 Release Dates; Season 1 Recap And Fan Theories

Disney XD had a hit on its hands with Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, and it is one of those cartoons like Steven Universe that fans both young and old can appreciate.  The show has been renewed for not just one but two more seasons and there are a lot of fan theories about where the show is going.  This is what is known about Season 2 and 3 release dates, as well as a Season 1 recap.

According to Comic Book, Disney XD has decided to pick up Star Vs. The Forces of Evil for Season 3 even before Season 2 has aired.  The show premiered earlier last year, and has developed a fan following.  If you are not familiar with the show, it is satirical take on the magical girl in anime as Star Butterfly (that is her real name) from another dimension of Mewni is sent to Earth in order to master her magical powers.   The first episode establishes the story very quickly as Star now lives as an exchange student with the Diaz family and their boy, Marco, who is the same age as Star (about 14).

One of the things about a magical girl anime is that they face monsters, and Star and Marco have had to face a horde of them every week, always led by Ludo.  The season then introduced another monster named Toffee, who quickly took over Ludo's role as leader of the inept group of monsters who failed to take Star's wand.

The finale ended spectacularly with a serious turn as Toffee forced Star to destroy her wand, using a whispering spell that her mother had taught her.  When she casts the spell, a weird unicorn ghost that comes from her wand whispers something to her, and it was apparently so precious that she sheds a tear.  What did the unicorn say?

The wand is destroyed, but then reformed again with what Star sees as an "upgrade".  However, it is revealed in a discussion between Star's parents that not all of the wand's pieces have been uncovered, and the season ends on a shot of half of a star just waiting to be found.  This star is a fragment of the original wand that is still absent from the "upgraded" wand.  Is it possible that Toffee could get a hold of it and do something with it?

Even though the show began with episodes that had very little to do with each other, it is very clear that there is a story arc.  One of the interesting aspects of the show that has been subtly revealed, particularly on Episode 11 ("Mewindependence Day") states that Star's home dimension was originally populated by monsters, but the Mewni people threw them out.  Star celebrates this holiday by recreating the historic battle between Mewni and monsters, but as she was watching this battle game, there is a very visible look of fear, guilt, or something on her face.

It is quite possible that the true villains of the show are not the monsters, but Star's parents and the rest of the Mewni race.  In that case, Ludo and Toffee are the true natives of Mewni, and are simply trying to rid their land of the people that don't belong.

Like Steven Universe, Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is a show that has a bigger plotline of how the other dimensional worlds are a dictatorship.  It would appear that most princesses like Star are supposed to go to St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses, which was visited with a full-length Episode 10 as being a place of programming.  What kind of universe would have an established school like that?

Clearly, whatever force that is running the universe of multiple dimensions wants it under strict control, and it is not known why Earth is not considered under this authority.  In fact, the Earth that is shown on the show does not seem to be amazed at the presence of an interdimensional princess with magical powers.  In fact, why do Star's parents send her to Earth with a powerful magic wand?  It is apparent that they don't care about Earth at all, and how Star could unintentionally destroy it.  How could they be so uncaring toward Earth?

It is clear that Miss Heinous of St. Olga's will be back, as she seems to be very intent on finding Marco, tracking him to the Earth dimension.  It is pretty clear that Toffee will be back, and perhaps his motives will be revealed as the characters seems pretty shrouded in mystery in Season 1.

Fans have also noticed that Toffee is missing a finger, even though it has been shown that he has regenerative abilities.  There has to be a backstory behind that, and Toffee just has to return as he is such an interesting character.  Sure, he was blown to bits, but if he can grow back an arm, then perhaps he can grow back his body as well.

Other person who has become a fan favorite is Tom of the Underworld.  Episode 8 of the "Blood Moon Ball" revealed that Tom and Star used to have a relationship, which leads to many fans wondering if Star and Marco are going to be a couple as well.  It certainly looked like it as they shared a dance together.  However, it would appear that Marco is attracted to skateboarder Jackie Lynn Thomas, and Star might have a thing for the bad-boy musician Oskar.

Another thing that needs to be explained is the nature of the wand.  It is revealed on the show's Episode 7 of "Lobster Claws" that the wand changes shape depending on the user, and it became very evil and Eye of Sauron looking when held by a monster.  This makes viewers wonder why Toffee wants to destroy the wand, instead of using it for whatever his evil agenda is.  This is assuming that Toffee is even evil, as it was revealed on Episode 7 that although the monsters are inclined toward evil, they don't always choose it.

There is also this strange kinship that Star has with the wand as she manipulates it in order to break crystal, and there is some eyes glowing thing going on.  It reminded me of the Avatar State on Avatar: The Last Airbender, and she was not able to repeat the same feat.

As far as when the premiere of Season 2 for Star Vs. the Forces of Evil is happening, there is no definite release date.  If Season 3 has already been green-lit, then perhaps there will not be such a gap in between the next two seasons, which will please fans immensely.
