A little less than a week ago, we talked about the possibility of a leaked title for the new solo Spiderman movie in pre-production by Sony pictures. It's official, the new title for the new Spider-Man reboot has officially been announced as Spider-Man: Homecoming
Sony made the announcement on April 13th at CinemaCon. The reveal was made by Tom Holland, who will be playing Peter Parker. Holland is a British actor, most recently known for his role as Thomas Nickerson for the 2015 movie, In the Heart of the Sea. Holland's next film will be the first glimpse of Spider-Man as he will debut in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, along with many other Marvel heroes before he does his stand-alone movie. There are rumors that Captain America and Iron Man will visit Spider-Man's solo film as well.
The plot of the movie is not known yet- although, it is said to be taking Peter Parker back to his high school roots, but without a return to the origin story. Is the third time the charm for the Spider-Man movie franchise? It's already been done two different times in the last fourteen years. Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield have both taken their turns at playing the web-slinging hero.
Marisa Tomei, known for films such as My Cousin Vinny and Anger Management will be cast in the role of Peter Parker's Aunt May. The Disney actress, Zendaya will be playing the role of Michelle. There is no last name given on IMDB.com for her character, but Michele Gonzales was a character in Marvel's Spider-Man comic series. She made her first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #592 as a criminal defense lawyer who represents her brother in court. She is a roommate of Peter's, and there was some romance involved between the two of them after he broke up with Mary Jane. If this is the character in the upcoming movie, there could be some action involved on Zendaya's part, as Michele is a Muay Thai and kickboxing aficionado, and she has a temper.
These are the only known actors/actresses listed on IMDB, but Michael Keaton is listed as "rumored." Keaton is known for his role as Batman in the 1989 Batman film, and also the Batman Returns sequel. Many websites have talked about the possibility that he could play a villain, and some have even said Batman v Spider-Man.
Interestingly enough, Michael Keaton was nominated for an Oscar for Birdman in 2014. His role was playing a former superhero actor who wanted a redemption of his career after his comic book franchise.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be coming to movie theaters July 7th, 2017. Kevin Feige will be the producer. Stan Lee will have his hand in as Executive Producer.
