New ‘Doom’ Release Date and Beta Testing Dates, How To Qualify, and Specs Required

Mar 18, 2016 01:41 PM EDT

If you can remember the early nineties, then you probably remember a certain First Person Shooter (FPS) known as DoomDoom was a huge hit as the Internet was starting to be in every home, and Bethesda, who own the Skyrim and Fallout video game franchise, are about to reintroduce it to a new generation with a reboot known simply as Doom.  This is what is known about Bethesda's Doom with the Release Date and Beta Testing Dates.

When it comes to the beta version of Doom, it will be available on March 31, at 10 PM Eastern, according to Gotta Be Mobile.  Beta testers will have four full days to stress test and report findings to Bethesda engineers.  The beta test will end on April 3 at 11:59 Eastern time.

Sadly, this Doom beta is a closed beta, and Bethesda isn't offering any open sign up session for beta testers.  There are two ways to qualify for the Doom beta.  The first is that you took part in the Doom Alpha, and then you'll be invited to the Doom beta.  Of course, if you are on the Doom Alpha team, then you probably already knew that.  Just like you probably know that you need to make certain that the build of your game has updated correctly when the beta is released on March 31st

Also, if you pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order before May 26, 2014, you will have instant access to the beta.  There is a code located on a red square inside the physical box of Wolfenstein: The New Order.  This code can be redeemed on Bethesda's Doom beta site for the Xbox One, PC, or Xbox 360.  If you have a PS3 or PS4, it can get a little more complicated, and you should click here to find out.

For whatever reason, Bethesda doesn't seem to want an open beta test for all the public to participate.  This means that it will be beta tested by those who are very familiar with the game and want to see the latest version.

What is interesting about the Doom beta is that it is focused on the multiplayer portion of the game and not the single player campaign.  The content will also be pretty limited, but it will have two maps (Heatwave and Infernal) and two game modes (6v6 Team Deathmatch and Warpath).

There will be a lot of weapons available like the rocket launcher, plasma rifle, super shotgun, vortex rifle, static rifle, heavy assault rifle, and the lighting gun, as well as power weapons like the Gauss Cannon.  There is also some equipment like a frag grenade, siphon grenade, and personal teleporter.

In order to run Doom, there are some specs for both 720p and 1080p that can be found here.  The new Doom is planning to be released on May 13 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
