Fallout 4 Season Pass Price Increase News and DLC Release Dates; What More Is to Come After the First Three?

Bethesda has a huge hit with the Fallout franchise, and, as predicted, Fallout 4 was a huge hit upon its release.  The only thing that can be done is a follow-up, and Bethesda is giving players some downloadable content (DLC) soon.  Actually, they aren't "giving," but selling it, and many are upset by the recent price increase of the Season Pass.  However, the Season Pass includes three DLC packs that are known, and more along the way.  So is the price increase worth it?

Today, the Season Pass is getting a price change that prompted a lot of fans of the franchise to purchase it early due to the "discount" offered earlier.  That price was $30, but it is now $50.  The results of this decision can be seen on Steam, as the Season pass spent the last two weeks in the top 3 best sellers. Before that, it wasn't even in the top 10 on most days.

Venture Beat calls this technique a new form of marketing, and it was also used by Techland last November with Dying Light, where the developer gets the player to spend a lot more by making them feel like they must act immediately in order to avoid missing out on a great deal.  The DLC Season Pass for Dying Light only jumped from $20 to $30.  Techland, like Bethesda, said that the price increase was due to "bigger plans for the DLC."

Granted, the price hike might be justified.  DLC doesn't just make itself, especially in an age where gamers are demanding more from it.  So it really makes sense that players are the ones who pay more than a little extra for the content that the developers are spending a lot of time on creating.

The three add-ons of Fallout 4 DLC are introduced with one per month.  The first is Automatron, which allows the player to hunt robots to build as mechanical companions.  Automatron will be available this month, and it sells as a stand-alone DLC for $10.  The next DLC, available in April, is Wasteland Workshop, and it has the player creating traps and cages for the live creatures that live in the wasteland.  This DLC is available for $5, and allows the player to pit their creatures against each other in battles.  The last DLC is the largest, with a price of $25.  This involves a new quest in a new area called Far Harbor, which is the name of the DLC, available in May.

As for what more is available, there isn't really any word on specifically what, other than there is more.  Pete Hines, the Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing at Bethesda, has stated on Twitter that the Season Pass includes more than just the three previously mentioned DLC.  He tweeted "several more."
