The iPhone 6S by Apple has been out on the market since September 25th, 2015. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is not out at the moment, but was announced recently at Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain that Samsung customers will be able to get their phones by March 11th. Still, if you haven't decided which phone is the best for you yet, this article may give you more of an idea.
Up until two years ago, there was more of a difference between the 2 phones. The screen on Samsung phones were larger. Samsung started catching up to Apple's higher quality materials and sophisticated design last spring. Last fall, the resolution on the iPhone camera was improved to get closer to that of Samsung. And the S7 will actually be lowering the resolution on the camera- matching iPhone's 12 megapixels.
There are still differences in the two phones. The iPhones now have the 3D Touch system which allows users to access special features by pressing hard on an icon or link. Samsung has the great virtual reality technology. In fact, if you buy a S7 phone by March 18th, you will get a free Samsung Gear S2 or Gear VR if you order online.
The big difference between the phones will be the operating systems. Some users prefer iOS, while others like the Android technology.
In size, the 5.1 inch Galaxy S7 will be a bit larger and heavier than the iPhone 6s, which is 4.7 inches. The Samsung S7 Edge will have a screen that wraps around the sides of the phone toward the back. The screen is a bit wider and the phone itself will be slightly heavier also. The S7 will be smaller than the iPhone 6s Plus.
As mentioned previously, the cameras will be pretty identical- as the rear camera on the iPhone will move up from 8 megapixels to 12, and Samsungs will be going down to 12 from 18. Samsung's photos will not be getting worse, though. The change comes in Samsung using the 4x3 dimension instead of the old widescreen format- which makes for awkwardly sized pictures.
Both front cameras will be 5 megapixels. The iPhone has the screen become a flash to make for better selfies. The S7 will also have this feature.
Users will not be able to replace the battery on either phone. The S7 allows for the addition of storage. The original storage is also 32 gigabytes- which is twice what the iPhone allows for. No waterproofing for the iPhone, but the S7 is, and unlike the S5 and S6, the USB port is not required to be sealed before it's waterproof. The phone can be charged by laying the phone flat on a charging base.
The screens also differ, in that the iPhone uses LCD screens, but Samsung uses AMOLED. This makes the colors more vivid. The individual pixels produce their own light, while iPhone's LCD requires energy for backlighting, that extra energy is saved in the S7.
Samsung is ahead of Apple in the Virtual Reality department. Samsung has a VR headset. Apple doesn't have that yet. In the future, both Apple and Samsung will sell 360 cameras to take videos to be viewed on their respective phones.
