The original Netflix series of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be back in April with a second season to the delight of fans of the show. With this first teaser trailer, we get a little tidbit of where season 2 will head.
Three stars of the season Ellie Kemper as Kimmy, Jane Krakowski as Jacqueline, Tituss Burgess, who plays Titus Andromedon are fashion runway models inspired by New York Fashion Week in this teaser trailer.The show's catchphrases- like "Stranger Danger," "Hashbrown No Filter" and "Peeno Noir Caviar" show up as each model's look.
Tina Fey and Robert Carlock worked together to create the hit Netflix show. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will go deeper in season 2, according to Tina Fey and the stars of the show while at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. Kemper reveals,"She grapples with some pretty heavy life stuff in this season." The first season was more about Kimmy getting used to the real world, after being locked up in a bunker with no outside access for fifteen years. She will now deal with "deeper emotional and life issues that she kind of has to really get into, and that's more what this season is about,"says Fey.
This season, we will be introduced to Kimmy's mother. "What I know about her is that she wore short skirts and maybe wasn't the most attentive mother, so it might be a sad revelation who the mother was," Kemper told The Hollywood Reporter. "[Kimmy] didn't really have a family to go back to, so I'm interested to know who that mom will be. I have a feeling whatever sadness is there will be dealt with a humorous way."
Kimmy's life will not be the only one being explored this season. "Jacqueline is definitely trying to come to learn what her life is now that she's no longer Mrs. Voorhees. ... [She's] trying to stand on her own two feet," said the actress Jane Krakowski, who plays Kimmy's boss, Jacqueline, at the TCA winter press tour's panel. "They've given her a wonderful opportunity to grow into a more fully formed human being this season, and I think she really does have a great understanding of what the world is about by the end of the season."
The panel also revealed that Titus will have some "personal growth." Fey says that he enters into a grown-up relationship. Titus added that he will self-produce a one-man play, and there might be another "small-scale opportunity" at the end of the season. "He is far, far away from the type of fame that he thinks he's deserving of," Burgess said.
Season two's episodes will run on average 27 minutes per episode- long for a show, but because it is an exclusive for Netflix, there isn't a need for commercial breaks. Fey says they still write towards "imaginary act breaks."
And even though Netflix is more flexible with adult subject matter and swearing, Fey also said that they won't be changing drastically from the first season as they realize they have a younger audience, and would like to keep the trust that parents can watch it with a 12 or 13-year-old girl.
