Holy cliffhanger, Mulder? Monday night's final episode of the six-episode mini-season caused a lot of fans to cry and tear their garments, and don sackcloth and ash, as the producers of X-Files ended the season in their usual manner- leaving their viewers hanging. Will Fox bring Scully and Mulder back for another season?
A quick recap of the season finale-
We're brought back to the events of the 1st episode. I almost forgot that episode happened. This time, instead of Mulder opening with his explanation of why we are watching the show(as he did the first episode of the season) , Scully has a monologue of her own that tells her story. Then the struggle begins.
Everyone can start freaking out about vaccinations now, because the Smallpox vaccination seems to be the thing that's going to kill the world. Anti-vaxxers are now saying, "I told you so!" Tad O'Malley is back on the air to let everyone know as they are dying that he was right.
The Cigarette Man shows up again. Did everyone suspect that he would have something to do with all the deaths? We learn that he is responsible for giving Scully alien DNA- and also Agent Reyes, who lets Scully in on what's going on. We see Mulder in a good fight scene, and he confronts "Old Smokey" who wants to give him some alien DNA to save his life, but he refuses and gets out of there. Fortunately, Scully is able to use her DNA to come up with an antidote, but we have no idea if she will be able to save Mulder, who is near death. She has to find their son William, and... that spaceship from the 1st episode that destroyed that poor girl sends a beam down on her and Mulder...
The end. Or is it?
Well, fans shouldn't worry too much. There's already talk of more X-Files to come. Chris Carter told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday night, "They're going to ask for more. The ratings were very good. They were happy with the show. I talked to Dana Walden today. She said they'd very much like more, but nothing's being negotiated yet."
There is the case of working around David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's schedules. Carter said he thinks that Duchovny and Anderson would be open to doing more. They have to think practically, though, as both of the stars have families. Carter has a project that he is working on with his wife to try to get her book of short stories adapted to the screen. It definitely sounds like there will be more- possibly even another movie(even though the movies haven't done so well in the past). The question is when, and from what is being reported, there aren't any definite answers.
Duchovny tweeted this message to his fans,"In X files, as in life, seems the more answers we get, the more questions we have. Agree? Happy season finale, thanks for being there 2moro."
