Transformers 5, 6 and 7 Release Dates: Michael Bay's Involvement and Other Rumors

Back in 2014, it was rumored that Transformers 5 could be released in 2016, which would have followed the pattern of Paramount's release of a Transformers movie every two years. It would have also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the animated series, and the 30th anniversary of the franchise. The projected release date almost a year ago was June 24th, 2016. However, the timeline has been bumped, and Paramount Pictures recently announced the new plan. What can we expect for the future of the series?

First, the new release date for Transformers 5 now has a release date of June 23, 2017. This is also the opening date of the live-action Wonder Woman film from Warner Bros. That could be an interesting competition of who will come out on top in the box office.

Michael Bay has flip-flopped back and forth about whether or not he will stay on to direct this Transformers movie, but it appears that he will be doing, at least, this one more. In an interview with Collider last month, Bay told them this would be his last movie for the series. The interviewer pointed out that he has said that before. He replied with, "Yeah, I know, right? But it's like, that's all they want to do is franchises. That's all they want to do. I had to beg to get to make [13 Hours]."

The only cast that has been confirmed for this movie is Mark Wahlberg, revisiting his role of Cade Yeager, and Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime. The movie will more than likely take off from where the 4th one left off- with Optimus Prime flying off into space- leaving a big cliffhanger at the end of Transformers: Age of Extinction.

While speaking at the MIP Junior event in Cannes in 2015, Stephen J. Davis, Hasbro Studios President announced the intentions to have the four additional Transformer  movies:

"We just finished, as some of you may have read, just an incredible experience," said Davis. "We decided that we wanted to plot out the next ten years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a room over a three-month period. Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with, shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind and written a bunch of great movies. And they plotted out the next ten years of Transformers. Similarly, we are doing the same on television and digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8."

Transformers 6 is said to be released June 8th, 2018- which is also when the Godzilla sequel will be coming out. Transformers 7 is supposed to come out June 28th in 2019. Characters and plots for these sequels are not revealed yet.

Even though the 4th movie received poor critic ratings, it did make a lot of money- perhaps just because the fans of the franchise are keeping the spirit alive. Can a fifth, sixth, seventh and possibly 8th movie make enough money for Hasbro and Paramount? What are you looking for in a Transformer's movie?
