"Fast and Furious 8" is set to change its course with a new female villain in Academy Award winner, road goddess Charlize Theron.
According to Variety, Theron has gotten an offer to join the cast of Universal Picture's "Fast and Furious 8," in a villain role. Sources told the publication that the studio is willing to add the "Snow White and the Huntsman" actress to the cast ensemble of the film.
As per Cinema Blend, Theron serves as the female villain in the film, who is also set to change the face of the car racing film. According to the publication, Grey's upcoming film is pegged a "lone female" as the cause of the "Fast 8" team members, in addition to Deckard Shaw's character in James Wan's "Furious 7."
Theron is known for her roles in Patty Jenkins' crime biopic "Monster," Peter Berg's action fantasy "Hancock," Ridley Scott's mystery sci-fi "Prometheus," George Miller's action sci-fi "Mad Max: Fury Road," and Rupert Sander's action fantasy film "Snow White and the Huntsman,"
Aside from the rumored "Fast 8," Theron is set to star in the thriller television series "Mindhunter," David Leitch's thriller film "The Coldest City," Travis Knight's animated adventure film "Kubo and the Two Strings," Sean Penn's drama film "The Last Face," and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan's action adventure "The Huntsman Winter's War."
Another positive point why Theron is a good inclusion to Gray's film is that she and the director had already worked together in Gray's action crime thriller film "The Italian Job," which centered on Charlie Croker and his team as they plan an elaborate gold heist against the former team that betrayed and left them for dead.
At this point, it is vague on whether negotiations have started. Universal Pictures had not given its word about the information. But, with Theron in a villain role, her character can be used in "Fast and Furious" sequels, or even in prequels, now that Vin Diesel has previously teased a potential release of "Fast and Furious" spin-off films.
Meanwhile, "Fast 8" serves as the eight film installment in the "Fast and Furious" film franchise and a sequel to Wan's "Furious 7." The official film plot is unknown at this point, but the film sees the return of Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodrigues, Eva Mendes, Dwayne Johnson, Statham, and Diesel.
With Gray at the helm of the film, "The Fast and the Furious" writer Gary Scott Thompson is on board to pen the screenplay. Diesel, along with Michael Fottrell, Chris Morgan, and Neal Moritz are set to co-produce the film.
"Fast 8" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Apr. 14, 2017 while "The Huntsman Winter's War" hits theaters on Apr. 22.
