In line with Bryan Singer's upcoming Marvel Comics film "X-Men: Apocalypse," it has been revealed that Jean Grey and Professor X's relationship is going to be different, as compared to the film's predecessors.
"Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner plays teenage version of Famke Janssen's Jean Grey in Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse." In her interview with Digital Spy, Turner said that the two mutants had an unspoken bond since they were both telepaths. Turner mentioned that Professor X had gone through the same things as Jean Grey's, and he was very powerful, seeing the same power growing on the latter. The "Game of Thrones" actress also said that he wanted to protect her and help her control her powers while helping her access the best of her ability.
The actress added that Jean Grey's relationship with Professor X did not involve "sexual" elements for young and vulnerable girls who feel secluded and uncomfortable in the own skin. According to Cinema Blend, this resembles Charles Xavier's concern to Raven, before she adapted her new identity as Mystique. For Turner, Jean Grey and Professor X had a really sweet relationship; however, how protective the professor is to the former is yet to be seen.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is the next installment of the "X-Men" film franchise, following "X-Men: Days of Future Past." It centers on the rise of En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse. While he recruits his Four Horsemen for his massive destruction plan, the X-Men must unite to defeat the supervillain.
Set in 1983, Singer's film will see Apocalypse view the world as a polluted place, which needs cleansing, as he could not distinguish humans and mutants. Instead of a human versus mutant premise, as showcased by previous "X-Men" films, "X-Men: Apocalypse" is also set to see unity between mutants and humans as they work hand in hand to defeat his evil plans.
The film stars Tomas Lemarquis, Anthony Konechny, Rochelle Okoye, Ben Hardy, Lana Condor, Monique Ganderton, Josh Helman, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lucas Till, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Rose Byrne, Michael Fassbender, Olivia Munn, Jennifer Lawrence, and Turner. James McAvoy is playing Charles Xavier/Professor X while Oscar Isaac is set to play the titular supervillain Apocalypse.
With Singer at the helm of the film, Simon Kinberg is on board to en the film screenplay, along with Dan Harris, Michael Doughtery, Simon Kinberg, for the story. Stan Lee, Todd Hallowell, Kathleen McGill, Josh McLaglen, John Ottman, and Lauren Shuler Donner are set to produce the film.
Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is under pressure, as "X-Men: Days of Future Past" grossed more than $747 million after its release on May 23, 2014. It made more than $233 million locally and grossed more than $513 million in other countries, as per Box Office Mojo.
Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 27, 2016.
