Fans of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" can watch the second season, which premieres April 15, without fearing that it may be the last. The announcement of the second season's premiere comes with the exciting news that it will also have a third season.
Created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, Entertainment Weekly reported that it has been confirmed that the show has been renewed for a third season. At the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, series star Ellie Kemper dished on what can be expected from the upcoming season. According to Kemper, her character, a quite enthusiastic cult escapee seeing the world outside of the underground group after 15 years for the first time, will be dealing with a lot of serious stuff. "She grapples with some pretty heavy life stuff in this season," said Kemper.
She also dishes about Kimmy's role as a nanny to the socialite Jaqueline Voorhees. The actress shared that Kimmy and Jacqueline will see their relationship undergo some serious setback this season. Jacqueline is currently at a low point in her life, after losing both her financial security and husband.
"The employer-employee relationship is sort of muddied a little bit because these two are friends. Their dynamic changes a little bit," said Kemper. Fey added to this tidbit by sharing that , "She starts to convince her she should probably be doing a lot of this stuff as [her] friend, to save money."
Jane Krakowski, who plays Jacqueline, dishes on what is going to happen to the socialite now, in the wake of harrowing divorce at the end of last season. Krakowski claimed Jacqueline is doing her best to move on with her life and becoming her own woman. Transitioning to Jacqueline White from being Mrs. Voorhies, Jacqueline will learn the ropes of standing on her own two feet without money or security.
"I think she really does have a greater understanding of what the world is about by the end of the season." Fey also added, "She's sort of on a mission to help her family and realizes that the best way to do that is not necessarily going back and trying to live with them but by trying some other stuff."
Fey confirmed circulating rumors that she will be returning to her role as prosecutor Marcia. Before her admission, paparazzi photos last fall already hinted that this will happen.
In a previous report, Tituss Burgess teased about Titus' role in the season. HE specifically said that Kimmy has a lot of influence on him.
"Her optimism, her sunniness and selflessness and being considerate of other people is wearing off on Titus," teases Tituss Burgess, who was nominated for an Emmy because of the breakout role last year. He said Titus might undergo a positive transformation, all because of Kimmy.
