The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards will take place on Saturday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will honor the best performances in film and television for 2015.
Unlike the Golden Globes, all the awards that will be given are exclusively for acting. The list will not honor screenwriting, directing, or other technical categories which similar awards shows include. Given the comparable crossover membership of the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (i.e. the "Oscars"), the SAG Awards are considered by many as a fairly good Academy Award indicator.
Sticking to its tradition, the SAG Awards will not have a single host. Instead, a handful of celebrity presenters will keep the show running. For 2016, they will include talented comedy duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Other presenters scheduled to take the stage are New Orleans' Anthony Mackie and Jason Mitchell, along with Idris Elba, Anna Faris, Priyanka Chopra, Corey Hawkins, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Eva Longoria, Michael Keaton, Brie Larson, Rachel McAdams, Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne, Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, Sarah Silverman, Jacob Tremblay Kristen Wiig, and SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard.
Fey and Poehler will present the guild's Life Achievement Award to comedy trailblazer Carol Burnett. Former recipients of the coveted recognition include Clint Eastwood, Karl Malden, Edward Asner, Kirk Douglas, Ruby Dee, Sidney Poitier, Angela Lansbury, Robert Redford and Elizabeth Taylor.
The two-hour ceremony itself will begin at 8 p.m. and will air simultaneously on the TBS and TNT channels. For Hollywood fans eager to get the show started, E! Channel's usual red carpet coverage will start at 5 p.m ET. Both the red carpet and the ceremony proper will also be live streamed on SAGAwards.org, sagawards.tntdrama.com, and People.com starting at 6 p.m. ET. For those who happen to be in New York City, the red carpet Pre-Show will be broadcast live on the Times Square billboard.
When it comes to winner predictions, journalism experts cited by GoldDerby.com predict that "Spotlight" will win the "Outstanding Performance by a Film ensemble" category. The site also mentioned that HBO's "Game of Thrones" and its male star Peter Dinklage is favored to win the respective TV categories they are nominated in. In the movie department, there is a lot of buzz that the "Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role" award will go to Leonardo DiCaprio courtesy of his movie "The Revenant."
