'American Idol's' group week is often notable and memorable for all the dramas that seem to take place on that particular round. This season's group round did not fail to provide the same entertainment. Jennifer Lopez ended up being a little emotional as a group performs, saying she will miss the show since this is the last season.
Previous seasons of "American Idol" have group rounds replete with drama as group members forget their lyrics, desire to change teams right in the middle of the night, and quarrel with each other over song choices. Not to mention, the inherent competitiveness of the contestants making them catty to their group mates so that they can shine. The current season, which is also the last, is also loaded with the same. Billboard.com reported that Shelbie Z abandoned her group, which included Marlena Johnson. Poh Scott also abandoned her group too, leaving Dalton Rapattoni and Kassy Lelves in panic. Scott's father even provided a reason this happened, stating his daughter just cannot handle the mounting pressure.
Naturally, there were groups whose members worked well together that they were able to catch some sleep before performing for the judges, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick, Jr. Still, the judges were able to pick out some worthy singers deserving to move on to the next round.
NJ.com reported that audition favorites for this week included Jackson teen Gianna Isabella, Jordan Sasser, Manny Torres, and Sonika Vaid. Some groups did their best and shone brightly. Billboard.com reported that this included the first group to perform called "Team Blue Eyes." The team is made up of Kory Wheeler, Jordan Wheeler, and Jena Renae, and Kelsie Watts. Wheeler, a contestant from the previous season as well, was a bit apprehensive considering it was on this round when he was eliminated last time. This time, though, he and all his team members were able to deliver and given the pass to the next stage. They performed Bruno Mars' "Treasure" and wowed the judges. Lopez was particularly impressed with them, saying the group provided a "great start" for the round.
The second group survived too. All four members of the all-girl group called Milk and Cookies, Sara Sturm, Jenn Blosil, Lynnzee Fraye and Bri Ray were able to make it. They sang One Direction's "Drag Me Down." The next group Ooh X 2 was also a winning group since all of its members, Amelia Eisenhauer, Tristan McIntosh, and Lee Jean were sent to the next round.
One more notable highlight of the week was when Lopez got a bit emotional listening to a group perform "Rather Be." Lopez whispered to Connick that she is going to miss the show when it ended.
Shelbie Z was picked up the group called Singing Out Loud after she left her original team. Singing Out Loud, however, did not have a smooth rehearsal. They cannot agree to a song and, therefore, struggled to be nice to each other. In the end, three of the members, Shelbie Z, Michelle Marie, and Lindsey Carrier moved forward in the competition, and the fourth member, Ashley Lusk was left behind.
