It's been a few months since Rovio, Columbia, and Sony Pictures released their teaser trailer for The Angry Birds Movie back in September of 2015. Fans of the movie got a small glimpse into the characters of the film, but the new official trailer was released the other day, showing a little more depth into what the movie may be about, and hopefully not all of the best jokes of the film.
In the teaser trailer, we saw Red, the bird voiced by actor Jason Sudeikis(Saturday Night Live, Horrible Bosses). He appeared to be very angry, booting the poor little blue bird out into the ocean, and attending an anger management group of some sort, but this new trailer explains a little more. Red seems to have not fit in as a child. Other birds made fun of his eyebrows. He is a little clumsy. The eagle seems to know that the recurring issue he has is "AAAANNNGER!"
We see the green pigs arriving by boat, and everyone seems to be welcoming them as guests to the island, with the exception of Red, who notices that they are interested in stealing their eggs. He's trying to alert all of the other birds, but they don't seem to be seeing the same thing. Red realizes that their only hope is to find Mighty Eagle, voiced by Peter Dinklage(Game of Thrones,X Men:Days of Future Past). He travels with the other outcasts of the island - yellow bird, Chuck(Josh Gad of Frozen and Pixels fame), and black bird a.k.a. Bomb(Danny McBride).
The Angry Birds Movie is available in 3D, so along with the toilet humor and the groin injuries, kids will probably enjoy it more than adults. Most likely, that's the audience that Rovio is shooting for with their advertising, and of course, the merchandise that Rovio is most likely hoping will give the extra boost they need after their last lay-off of up to 260 people last year in August. They have paired up with Lego to make sets from the movie- including the Piggy Pirate Ship. These sets will be new in April.
Will this film bring life back to the once popular mobile video game? As kids have left behind the slingshot birds for building their own pixelated worlds, Rovio might just have to put in for a wish and a prayer that this movie will capture the attention of the youth. Adult critics are usually not fans of movies based on video games.
