"Fast and Furious 8" pulled a fast one on its fans. The team hid the fact that it is currently shooting in Iceland and even setting up a massive Icelandic Explosion, but avid news sites were able to catch on.
While Vin Diesel posted a poster on his social media accounts of the filming he and the rest of the cast have been doing in New York City, he chose to stay mum that the film will also have some magnificent coverage in Iceland. There were some earlier reports about the movie shooting in Cuba, but none about Iceland at all.
Iceland Review, however, released news that the movie is filming some scenes in Iceland. The residents of the Akranes themselves were allegedly told that themselves. And then, Regina Ásvaldsdóttir, the Mayor of AKranes confirmed the news and even revealed some spoilers. According to the Mayor, the crew plans of exploding something in Iceland. Not just any explosion either. "The crew has plans to carry out the largest explosion ever in Iceland," the Mayor revealed.
This is probably how the crew plans to make the movie stand out from previous installments. According to film director F. Gary Gray, fans can expect "Fast 8" to be different and fresh, as reported by the Collider. "We're really pushing to make sure the audience feels like it's not more of the same. They feel like it's fresh, they feel like the characters they've come to know and love are there, but this is gonna be different, and that's probably the most I can give you right now. It's kind of top secret." he said.
Earlier on, the Hollywood Reporter shared that there is a high chance that the movie will shoot in Cuba because the team is already actively asking permission to shoot in this particular country. Because of that report, many speculated that there is a high possibility that highly unusual cars will be used for this installment. Cuba is well-known for its highly unusual cars, usually vintage and visually-striking. It remains to be seen whether some footage will still be done in Cuba.
Iceland makes for a logical location for shooting "Fast 8." The country is not new to accommodating action film shootings. "Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead" was shot in Iceland. Furthermore, the dramatic snowscapes offer an exciting backdrop for the heart-stopping action that "Fast and Furious" movies never fail to give their fans through the years.
