12 NFL teams have been whittled down to 8 SuperBowl hopefuls. Fans are starting to prep for SuperBowl Sunday, even if they don't know that their teams will be playing in the game or not. Big screen TVs are going on sale. Recipes for appetizers are being posted on Facebook. Things are getting serious.

The Carolina Panthers(No.1) battle the Seattle Seahawks(No.6) on Sunday, January 17th. Greenbay Packers(No.5) will face the Arizona Cardinals(No.2) On Saturday, January 16th in the NFC Divisional Playoffs. The winners of those two games will play against each other on the 24th in the Conference Championships to determine who will play in The Big Game.

On the AFC side, we have the Denver Broncos(No. 1) facing the Pittsburgh Steelers(No. 6) on Sunday, January 17th, while the Kansas City Chiefs(No. 5) will match up against the New England Patriots(No.2) on Saturday, January 16th. The winners of these two games will also play each other on the 24th- where the winners of that game will get two weeks before playing the NFC champion in the Super Bowl.

For those who like to watch the Super Bowl, but haven't followed the other games, a bit of trivia: To celebrate their 50th year, all of the teams in the NFL had the number fifty on the fifty-yard line painted gold. The teams have also been wearing hats and jackets trimmed in gold while on the sideline, according to John Breech of CBS Sports. Also, in addition to the Lombardi trophy, the winners of the Super Bowl will get a golden "50," designed by Tiffany(also the designer of the Lombardi Trophy). The numbers five and zero will be 18-karat gold plated, and will weigh sixty-six pounds altogether. Heavy metal!

The 50th anniversary of America's biggest game has to have a spectacular half-time show, right? Last month, Coldplay accepted Pepsi's invitation to play at the half-time show. Pepsi is the major sponsor of this year's half-time show. Beyonce, who joined Coldplay recently on their album,"A Head Full of Dreams," has also been confirmed by Pepsi to join the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Bruno Mars was invited to headline for the show, but there isn't an official word on whether or not he will be joining. He did perform for Super Bowl XLVIII two years ago.

So when does this all happen, and how can one watch this excitement? Super Bowl 50 will air on February 7th. Kick off is at 3:30 p.m. PT. The two teams will compete at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where the San Francisco 49ers have been playing their home games. Live televising will happen on the CBS station.
