As we saw in the previews for this week's episode of Married at First Sight, the couples are all still adjusting to their lives as married couples. Tres and Vanessa consummate their marriage, sealing the deal. Sam is worried about Neil being real in their marriage, and David is upset and storms out of the room, saying something about his dad dying- leaving Ashley unsure of what to do. We also saw that Tres had Vanessa worried about his commitment to the marriage after she had found him passed out on the couch after a night of drinking. Will our couples find some closure in this episode?
The couples have been together for two weeks, and now it's time to interact with the in-laws.
Tres and Vanessa
Tres is definitely excited about the fact that they have consummated the marriage.
The movers come and unload their stuff. Vanessa's sister is there to help her unpack since Tres is leaving for work. Her sister sees "love in the air." They talk about Father's Day, and while Vanessa doesn't have a relationship with her father, she is ready to establish relationship with her new father-in-law.
Tres' dad and uncle come to visit (also his sister and sister-in-law). Vanessa embraces his family and sees herself as one of their family members. Vanessa is told by Tres' dad that he will be there for her as a father since her dad is not.
When Tres has come back from partying and drinking with his dad and uncle, Vanessa expresses her concerns that he is not committed, and maybe is still into his partying days. Tres tries to convey to her that it's not as bad as it used to be. Vanessa seems to have trust issues with men, and admits that maybe it's because of her father and abandonment issues.
Dr. Pepper wants them to talk to each other about what their dreams are, and what reality is, and try to get on the same page. Vanessa agrees to be a little more relaxed
Neil and Sam
Sam appears extremely stressed about the marriage. Dr. Pepper comes to talk to them. Sam wants Neil to act like himself. She says that Neil is very PC when the camera is around. She wants him to act normal at all times. There is a lot of pressure on camera. Neil tells her that he has been reluctant to let people in for a long time and struggles with his communication. Sam says she feels like she need to upset him to be honest.
Dr. Pepper notices that they are still moving in and haven't really made their house a home. Sam expresses her concerns to Dr. Pepper about Neil not being real. Dr. Pepper asks Neil to open up to her, and he tells her that he is playing it safe because of Sam's treatment of him in the beginning of their marriage. When she talks to both of them, she talks about communication, and more importantly, intimate communication. They are encouraged to share with each other what they think are the roles about husband and wife. Sam is about traditional gender roles. Neil wants a 50/50 relationship. Sam is shutting down because he is too laid back for her. Neil says he is still committed to this marriage, while Sam states that she is indifferent. Dr. Pepper doesn't think that she's indifferent, but she needs to stop pushing Neil away.
Neil bonds with Sam's dad, Bob, at the shooting range. Bob likes Neil, but mentions how guarded Neil is and more introverted than Sam is. He gives Neil suggestions about being the man, and "manning up."
Sam enjoys spending some time with her dad. She opens up to her dad, and he gives her pointers about pulling the layers of the onion and getting Neil to be more open to her.
Sam is ready to give Neil a chance after their conversation with Dr. Pepper. Neil is glad to see that Sam is becoming more positive, and as they grow more comfortable and have some fun, they will be fine.
David and Ashley
The day that his dad died and Father's Day are the hardest days for David. He says he's better about it now, but he used to shut down totally.
David sees glimmer of hope in their marriage, and Ashley sees a good start, although she says there is work ahead of them. David does have some concerns as they still aren't very close yet.
On Father's Day, Ashley asked him why he was so grumpy, and that's when he stormed off and was angry because it was the day that his dad had died. Ashley did go in and try to comfort him. She hopes that he will see that as a positive that she is making an attempt to understand him.
David's mom comes to visit on Father's Day. He says he usually does this day alone. Ashley takes some time alone with his mom, and learns more about how he holds stuff in, but remains positive about things like his mom.
They watch old home movies, which brings him some solace and brings him back to happier times. His mom says she can see them as a married couple, but they both have to open up to each other.
Dr. Pepper also shows up to their house. She gave them an exercise to call each other "husband" and "wife." They talk about the lack of physical intimacy and affection. There are plans for a house-warming BBQ and David wants to invite a bunch of friends. Ashley is more introverted, and doesn't want that many. Dr. Pepper gives them another assignment to have smaller parties, and invite as many people as she feels comfortable with.
As they try to spend 15 minutes together at the end of the day to talk, Ashley frustrates David because she is still unwilling to talk with him. The experts talk about how they were matched because they hoped that David would be able to break through Ashley's walls. David tells the camera that if this was him talking to a friend in a relationship like this, he would tell them that "She's not into you," and that he would tell them that this is not the relationship for them, but that he wouldn't take his own advice.
Next time on Married at First Sight:
Vanessa is annoyed that Tres takes a work call.
Dr. questions Neil, "Your wife is not sure what your needs are?"
Ashley states that she and David are very compatible. David goes in for a kiss as they are on a big Ferris wheel, but we do not see what her reaction is.
