Even though seven-time champion Michael Schumacher's current health status is still unknown, the motor racing world is continuously showing its support to him. The champion turned 47 on Jan 3, and the world of motorsport paid him an emotional birthday tribute.
F1 legend Schumacher ended up in critical condition after getting into a horror skiing accident around two years ago. Up until now, the German star is still not well. However, little has been revealed of his true health status. While it is expected that friends and fans would have long given up now on supporting the champion, this is hardly the case.
Friends and fans of the winner recently shared that they are still fervently supporting the legend. His former team, Mercedes, even saluted the star on his special day.
According to the team chief, Ross Brawn, despite his current condition, no one can deny how great Schumacher's contribution was for the success of the Mercedes team, which it enjoys up until now.
"He won races that we should not really have won, and in my opinion, Michael did that more often than anybody else has," Brawn explained. Former world champions Felipe Massa and Sebastian Vettel also took the time to greet Schumacher a happy birthday through their Twitter accounts.
Schumacher was subjected to a medically induced coma for half a year after hitting his head on a rock back in Dec 2013 while skiing. In June 2014, the champion was discharged from the hospital and being treated and cared for at his home. Accounts of his current condition remain limited. Official updates on his journey towards recovery were few. Some speculated that Schumacher is now paralyzed even though nothing has been confirmed.
Back in May 2015, his longtime manager Sabine Kehm shared to a German news outlet that the champion has already made some progress. However, he cautioned fans to remember how severe the legend's injuries are. FIA president Jean Todt shared back in Dec 2015 that the champion is still fighting. Apart from these updates, the legendary F1 champion's family remained very tight-lipped on his condition to the public.
Despite the limited news on his condition, it was reported back in Oct 2015 that the expenses being incurred for his care were starting to affect his fortune. The website detailed that providing his care are a slew of physicians, nurses, and medical technologists. Also, these experts take care of him at his custom-built mansion home in Switzerland.
