Mere hours before the year 2016 started, the controversial rapper dropped his latest single, titled Facts, where he went on to attack a number of celebrities. The song also directly bashed Nike, which is the most popular competition of Adidas - the brand with Kanye West as one of the endorsers.
The husband of Kim Kardashian targeted some athletes in his latest single. The lyrics of Facts specifically singled out LeBron James and his lifetime contract with Nike. In 2015, King James signed with the company to endorse the brand even after his basketball career. The contract is reportedly worth more than $500 million. The words pertaining to James and his contract are as follows: ""Nike out here bad, they can't give [expletive] away/ Nike Nike treat employees just like slaves/ Gave LeBron a billi' not to run away."
Aside from James, Kanye West also mentioned Odell Beckham, Jr. The New York Giants star. He sang, "On the field I'm over reckless, on my Odell Beckham/ 2020, I'ma run the whole election." The rapper then gave a shout out to fellow Adidas endorsers Nick Young and James Harden. The lyrics alluding to the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets stars are: "Tell Adidas that we need a million in production/ I done told y'all, all I needed was the infrastructure/ Now we hottest in the streets, it ain't no discussion/ James Harden, Swaggy P runnin' up the budget."
In fact, some fans believe that Kanye West even targeted the great Michael Jordan in his song. The lines, "Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman," have been said to be about the Jordan brand. However, some claim that it might be referring to the hit single of Future and Drake titled Jumpman. In the said track, the former beau of Rihanna praised the Jordan brand. Meanwhile, Kanye West also went on to rave over his own Adidas shoe collection. He sang, "I ain't drop the album, but my shoes went platinum."
Following the release of Facts, the son of the Chicago Bulls legend reacted via Twitter. Marcus Jordan shared that the song gave him a laugh. He also highlighted the lyrics that caught his attention. "Yeezy just jumped over @Jumpman23," he wrote, referring to the song's words. Marcus added, "LOL I needed a good laugh to start my #2016."
