Clash of Clans and Star Wars fans may have noticed a new ad before the movie in some theaters. Supercell brings us Christopher Waltz, the Austrian-German actor who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained. In this commercial for Clash of Clans, he plays father to an overgrown son- James Corden, who is host of The Late, Late Show.
The scene opens to James Corden in bed with a tablet device- most likely playing Clash of Clans, one could guess. Christopher Waltz comes in to tell his son a bedtime story. "This is a true story of a powerful and courageous father, and his chubby pup of a son."
Corden looks away, almost a little introspectively, as if to wonder if Waltz is talking about him...
"It's called The Legend of the Last Lava Pup."
Waltz goes on to tell this story, based on a real game played by a Clash of Clans player. The single Lava Pup is left after his Lava Hound father, and all his brothers were obliterated. Alone and scared, Lava Pup is able to take out the Town Hall!
The end of the video seen below, shows the real life gameplay the bedtime story is based upon. Supercell plans to have more "True Tales of Clash Archievery" as a marketing campaign thought up by Barton F. Graf 9000. They will look through Clash of Clans community groups and forums, and also Reddit. Fastcocreate.com stated that a new site will be launched on Christmas Day where players can submit their own Archievery videos.
This commercial is not the first time Supercell has used big-name actors to promote their product. Fans might remember the one commercial of the big football game that happens every January featuring Liam Neeson, who, in his best Bryan Mills from Taken monologue promises to take his revenge on BigBuffetBoy85- until interrupted by the eatery worker calling out his name "Lie- em?" With the next SuperBowl rounding the corner soon, perhaps we will see a new commercial with more famous actors?
Another fun video Clash of Clans came out with at the beginning of the month, made to entertain its fans is a 360 virtual reality raid. Best viewed on a mobile device with a Youtube app, this video brings players into the game- allowing them to view an attack from all angles from the top of an Archer Tower.
Clash of Clans also recently updated their game to bring in their Christmas theme with snow and a new tree. Every year there is a new tree, so if players don't get rid of them, they will have a collection of trees over the different years they play. TimmyEatWorld gives some tips on keeping the seasonal obstacles, and forcing them to spawn in areas that won't interfere with bases later in the game.
With so many players complaining about the big update that changed the gameplay and stopped Town Hall sniping, what are your thoughts? Do you still enjoy the game? Do you have any stories of cool attacks that could be made into a story? Leave your comments!
