Season 2 for USA Network's hit TV series, "Mr. Robot" is allegedly underway already. If the reports are true, fans can already enjoy the new season in the first half of 2016. This report is the current roundup of confirmed reports provided by the showrunner himself.
According to Variety, showrunner Sam Esmail plans to be the director of all the second season's ten episodes himself. Also, Esmail stated that fans can expect a darker season that the first. Actor Christian Slater would still play Mr. Robot/Edward Alderson.
In an interview with Vulture, Esmail also provided that BD Wong would have a lot of screen time in the second season of "Mr. Robot." The showrunner claimed Wong was a gem of an actor to let him go. "[BD Wong] is amazing in the first season," Esmail told Vulture. "I'd be a fool not to bring him back." Apart from that, Esmail kept season 2 spoilers close to his vest, but teased, "We have the writers in the room tonight."
With regard the plot of the second season, Esmail also released some teasers in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We're about to watch Rome burn. That's the world Elliot's going to enter next season," Esmail said.
"I wanted the story of Mr. Robot to be Elliot actually accomplishing his goal, setting the world into chaos. What would happen to society if something like this occurred where, basically, if the consumer debt industry were to be erased? What are the economics of that? What would the world look like? Would there be a revolution? Would governments take over? Would businesses take over?" Esmail explained.
Apart from the plot, Esmail shared what he envisioned the second season can achieve that the first season was not able to yet.
"I think the first season, there's a lot of character development. To me, none of the thrilling elements work if you don't have a character that's fleshed out, that feels real, that you can relate to or empathize with or understand," Esmail told ET."So we're always doing both," he explained.
He also asserted that his goal is to take viewers on a different emotional plane. "But at the end of the day, what a good story is, for me, is really about a person and how they're growing and how they're evolving. The emotional journey is 100 percent the heartbeat of the show. And that's something that we'll never lose," he explained.
