"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson recently revealed that for today's "wicked and adulterous" generation, the word "repent" is by far the "scariest word in the English dictionary."
Robertson made his comments to Town Hall when asked what he thinks of today's politically correct culture and censorship of Christmas.
"Well we're just trying to infuse a little good into our culture and Christmas is a wonderful time to remember that," the 69-year-old reality star said. "Our culture today, for lack of a better term they've just become so inward-focused, so selfish. Let's face it, we live in a pretty wicked and adulterous generation."
He continued, "We're just trying to infuse a little good into the culture saying come on, love God and love each other. We're just trying to get people to turn from their sins. Look, I used to get with the dope-smoking worst of them. But once I was delivered from that, that was my idiot phase. So basically, it's called repenting - the scariest word in the English dictionary. You never hear about it anymore, but trust me, everyone needs to repent and turn to God, they really do."
Robertson went on to lament the state of culture today, where Christianity and public expressions of faith are continually under attack.
"When I give a Bible lesson, I have to have armed men to my right and my left and behind me," he said. "To give a Bible lesson. That's where we are in America. Pretty sad."
Despite today's PC culture, the "Duck Commander" does not shy away from speaking his mind: In 2013, A&E suspended him from "Duck Dynasty" after he called homosexuality a sin and compared it to bestiality in an interview with GQ Magazine.
"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there," he said."Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."
Robertson continued to reference 1rst Corinthians 6:9, stating, "Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers-they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."
In a sermon preached less than a year later, Robertson reiterated this view and slammed America for trading in Biblical truth for political correctness.
"Political correctness is this according to Webster's dictionary: Conforming to what is regarded as orthodox liberal opinion on matters of sexuality, race etc. Usually used disparagingly to connote dogmatism, extreme sensitivity to minority causes, so if you read the definition according to the Webster's dictionary, it's not real favorable," he said.
"So what do you want to do, follow the politically correct crowd to your death to your grave to you burial?" he asked. "They are not going to help you with your sin...I'm just saying, as far is your life is concerned, you put your faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus."
Robertson and his wife, Miss Kay, recently released their latest book, Exploring The Joy Of Christmas, which includes the couple's favorite memories, Miss Kay's famous recipes, their favorite carols and more.
In continuing his comments to Town Hall, Robertson explained that Christmas became, even more, special to his family when they stopped worshiping the baby Jesus and started worshiping the risen Jesus.
"Listen, a lot of people say well why do you make such a big deal? The reason we do is, out of all the individuals who walked on earth, our calendar is based on just one of them," he said. "We count time by Jesus of Galilee. So, if you think about it, I'm like, whatever He did must have been large. To us, it's God, creator of the universe, being flesh. He took our sins away on the cross. All He asks is we love Him and love each other. I just think the world would be better off if we paid homage to Jesus and revered Him only. And love each other. That's all we're trying to do."
