For a firm that currently counts as the biggest phone manufacturer in the world, Samsung is keeping an uncharacteristic silence over updates on when their flagship devices will finally receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
Nevertheless, keen watchdogs have leaked information here and there including what seems like the presence of Android M on at least two Samsung mobiles: the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 4.
The Tech Times reports that leaked images of a few Samsung smartphones and phablets with the Marshmallow update have been circulating the web. Speculators conclude that the firm is close to releasing Android M in its products.
The images show the Samsung Galaxy S6 running on Marshmallow 6.0. The images confirm that this feature is indeed coming the way of keen Samsung users.
Photos show an overall flattened version of TouchWiz. The pull-down status bar (used for quick access common settings and notifications) now has an elegant, white background under the blue text.
The Camera app on the Galaxy S6 has a new Pro mode that allows users to set the shutter speed, ISO, exposure, and white balance among others. This feature is also on the Galaxy Note 5.
The report also made mention of leaked images for Galaxy Note 5 on Marshmallow. This device had a flatter TouchWiz UI that now looks like Google's Material Design language, which came out with the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop in 2014.
Meanwhile, Sam Mobile reports that Samsung already has Android 6.0 builds ready for the Galaxy Note 4.
The rumor came about when one of the editors at Napidroid received the Android M update on the Galaxy Note 4, with a firmware build version N910FXXU1DOL3X.
Most tech watchdogs were surprised to find this update on Note 4 ahead of updates or the 2015 lineup of Galaxy flagships.
The update brings new features to the Note 4: the Note 5′s screen-off memo function that lets you start taking notes with the S Pen as soon as you take it out of its slot; improved performance; and finally new app icons and Air Command menu from the newer version of TouchWiz that were first released on the Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+.
However, tech watchdogs are saying that the update on a Note 4 device was a mistake as the Android build was made available ahead of schedule.
