LG handset users have something to look forward to as LG has chosen to completely skip over the Android 5.1.1 update for their flagship devices in order to better prepare for the Android Marshmallow update, Android Pit reports.
A number of LG users worldwide have already received the 6.0 Marshmallow update since October (You can check if your device is part of the rollout using LG Bridge, the company's PC sync software):
- LG G4 users in Poland were the first to get Marshmallow in October. Some bugs emerged however, thus driving the test release into a halt.
- LG users in Europe started getting Android Marshmallow on their devices in late November.
- LG G4 owners in Korea also started getting the Marshmallow update in November. The software could be downloaded from LG's website, so that customers could make updates via computers. Though the Korean company has managed to spread the latest Android OS locally, it may still take awhile to have Marshmallow released on their flagship handsets worldwide.
- T-Mobile lists the LG G3, LG G4 and LG G Stylo among those devices set to receive Android Marshmallow in the first wave of updates.
In a previous post from Gospel Herald, it was reported that LG is showing unusual aggressiveness in getting Marshmallow out to their users as soon as they can (especially ahead of competitors), thus it can't be too farfetched to expect the update on LG G4, G Flex 2, G3, and G2 for U.S. subscribers at Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T quite soon.
Chris Yie, Vice President and Head of Marketing Communications for LG Mobile has previously mentioned that by working closely with Google, "LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4 ahead of any of our competitors. While speed alone isn't an indicator of great service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG is committed to its existing customers first."
For users who don't like to wait months before getting the update, there is a way, if you are willing to take a technical risk. LG users can check out the CyanogenMod community and look into flashing custom ROMs made for unlocked Android devices.
