'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U Release Date Set for 2016, Nintendo NX Version Possible

Dec 03, 2015 12:55 PM EST

The countdown to the release of "Legend of Zelda Wii U" is already starting even though there is no definite release date. All that fans have now is just a year: 2016.

According to Trusted Reviews, 2016 just might be the year that fans would have the game nestled comfortably in their consoles. But as long as the specific release month is unknown, fans still have to wait for more news on this release date.

Trusted Reviews culled what is known so far of the hot game. From its trailers, it is possible to see that it would feature an open world, which is as exciting as it is worrying. The vastness of the game world means it would be both fun and difficult to play.

It is also now known that the game would not be a single player experience. Zelda series' producer Eiji Aonuma himself said that this would feature "more than just a single-player experience."

Another exciting tidbit about the game is that Epona would be back. Considered a stalwart of the Zelda series, Epona would make a triumphant return to this game. Also, because the new AI follows "Shadow of Colossus'" intricate and sophisticated design, Epona would not be crashing into obstacles as she runs. The character would also be able to react naturally to trees and rocks without the player doing a lot of pushing.

According to IDigitalTimes, there is a high chance that "Zelda Wii U" will also have a Nintendo NX Version as well. The new game console is also set to launch in 2016. Not only has Nintendo never indicated that they would not release the same game on the NX, but the company is also keen on having widely popular games for this new gaming console. Nintendo is determined to have a strong and great launch lineup for Nintendo NX, and therefore, this makes a Zelda title very likely.

Fans just could not wait for "Legend of Zelda for Wii U" since this game was originally slated to launch in 2015. The company announced the release date must be delayed to 2016, partly because Nintendo uncovered more ways to improve the game further for Wii U.

With the "Legend of Zelda" set for a 2016 release, the year can be described as really "monstrous" for classic Japanese franchises. Apart from Zelda, the same year would see the launch of "Dragon Quest XI" and the Nintendo 3DS games of "Final Fantasy XV, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness," "Persona 5," and "Tales of Berseria."
