Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey just lost her crown to Holly Holm after being knocked out during the second round of their match. Because of the injury she acquired at the match, Rousey is now facing a 6-month mandatory suspension.
UFC issued a medical suspension to the athlete after her medical examination. According to NY Post, the suspension was handed out by the athletic commissions.
The description of the suspension indicated that Rousey has acquired a head injury. Her suspension will continue for 180 days unless a clear CT scan result reveals that there is no real damage.
There will be an addition of 60 days no fight and 45 days no contact for Rousey.
Because of the intense knockdown, MMA fighter Jose Aldo spoke out about Rousey's case and said that she might not fight again.
Aldo, speaking at the Nova Uniao press conference, said he was not surprised if this will happen, according to MMA Fighting.
"It's normal. There are wins and losses. Holm was multiple-time champion in boxing and was able to do her thing standing, and I knew Holm would win if she kept it standing," said Aldo.
The Brazilian athlete also said he is a fan of women's MMA, and he sees it as a different level to men's MMA.
"Ronda is a great champion, I respect her, but I think men's (MMA) is at a higher level," he said.
Aldo added that men's MMA are not restricted by one type of martial art, so if a male MMA fighter does judoka, he might also do boxing as well.
Aldo explained that their industry is all about survival. An athlete has to be good and to stand by the end of the day.
"You have to be good wherever the fight goes, and that's how I try to be. I like to watch women's MMA more than men fighting because they always do their best and fight hard," said the 29-year-old fighter.
When asked if he think Rousey would come back inside the Octagon again, he said he thinks it would be hard.
"Her career has taken a different direction. If I'm making a lot of money doing movies or something else, I'd go that direction too. Am I going to mess my face up getting punched in the face? You're crazy [laughs]. In my opinion, I don't think (she fights again). If she comes back, of course, she can (win the title). She was always a fighter, but if I were her, I wouldn't come back."
