Tuesday's Republican debate will feature the fewest number of candidates as the lineup has thinned down to eight after Fox's strict compliance with its polling criteria.
Two formerly primetime candidates have failed to make the cut for Tuesday's Republican Debate hosted by the Fox Business Network. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee failed to make the 2.5% polling average threshold and will appear during the earlier 6 pm undercard debate along with former Sen. Rick Santorum and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Christie was just beginning to get some momentum in the last debate, but his poll numbers haven't reflected it. Then again, the last debate was just a week ago so it's hard for things to shake out in this short time. Also noted, Pataki and Graham have been cut as they did not meet the minimum to appear in the earlier undercard debate.
The field has finally narrowed some now that we'll be down to eight candidates on stage. This will make for a more lively debate as the remaining candidates will have more time for more questions and will be pushing to score some points with voters.
A report by Vox named the eight candidates to join the main event as Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, John Kasich, and Rand Paul.
The fourth debate also promises some fireworks with Ben Carson overtaking Donald Trump in recent polls who is obviously feeling the heat and has taken to lashing out his rivals at every turn, from press interviews to social media, including Twitter, etc.
But Carson is not free from controversies. He has been drawing media attention lately because of alleged factual misstatements about his background and linking him to a theory that the pyramids were constructed actually to store grains. Carson will have the opportunity to explain himself to a nationwide audience and a possible head-on match-up with Trump.
Traditional politicians like Marco Rubio are showing some signs of upswing during his main rival, Jeb Bush is on the decline. Bush's attempt to swipe at Rubio during the last debate was a disaster, and it will be interesting how he will try to recover from that debacle.
Meanwhile, Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business Network and one of the moderators for Tuesday's Republican presidential debate said she does not want to see the debate turn into a brawl, but rather to be an opportunity for the voters to understand the differences between candidates.
She told the Associated Press, "You want to draw out the differences, but I don't think you need to draw (them) out taking somebody's head off and having a fight. That does make good television, but it's not really helping the viewer."
