Justin Bieber's newest song, co-penned with none other than Ed Sheeran, has finally dropped. The single entitled "Love Yourself" is part of his upcoming album, "Purpose."
On Nov. 9, Bieber called into Zane Lowe's Beats Radio show to allow his fans to finally hear the anticipated song for the first time. Rolling Stone described the song as being the most subdued and the least electronic of the Canadian singer's new tracks. Other songs included on the album were "Sorry" and "I'll Show You." Compared to these songs, however, "Love Yourself" is said to have more intimate and heartfelt lyrics.
On the song, Bieber called out a girl who used his name to enter clubs and so in love with her looks. The lyrics also revealed that this person had put Bieber down several times. He also described the girl as someone his mom does not like, which is a huge deal considering his mom loves everyone.
The lyrics certainly left listeners wondering who is this unnamed girl is and whether she could be one of Bieber's famous exes, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, or Hailey Baldwin. While Bieber's soft vocals supplemented by the ballad-like electric guitar in the background made sure the song sounded pretty, Hollywood Life reported that it sounded like a diss song. The lyrics were very telling as if Bieber asked Sheeran to help him write a song about someone who broke his heart for being shallow and for using him, but he moved on already.
Earlier on, Bieber told Capital FM that this song he worked on with Sheeran is one of his favorites. He also shared that the song reminded him of his roots. ""It's just me and a guitar, and basically that's how I started. I started playing on the street with a guitar, and so it's cool to go back to my roots."
