Whenever a new version of the Android OS comes out, users are always wondering when it will be sent out to their devices. Chinese device maker Lenovo, who also owns Motorola, moved to answer that question by providing a list that gives users an idea of when Google's new Android 6.0 Marshmallow will arrive at some of its most popular handsets, including the Lenovo Vibe S1, Vibe P1, K3 Note, and A7000 Plus.
The company's Android Upgrade Matrix Support page detailed that two of the models under its Vibe series, the Vibe P1 and Vibe S1, will be receiving the update in June next year. The Lenovo K3 Note phablet is set to receive Android 6.0 on September 2016. Mid-range devices such as the Lenovo A7000 and A7000 Plus will also get the software bump on the same month. All of these models currently run Android 5.1 Lollipop.
However, it appears that Lenovo only posted that information accidentally. At the time of this writing, all details regarding Android Marshmallow updates have been removed from the said support page. It may also signify that the company has revised its timeline for the aforementioned upgrades. Thankfully, tech site MobiPicker managed to capture screenshots of the page while it still shows the details for Marshmallow updates.
With such upgrades slated to arrive in the third quarter of 2016, Lenovo is set to become one of the slowest manufacturers to update its device range to the new Android 6.0 OS. Device makers such Huawei, Sony, and even Motorola have all shared their plans for upgrading their models to the latest OS soon. Samsung is also working on bringing Marshmallow to several of its mobile devices.
In another Android front, a new player in the world of devices run by Google's mobile platform is gearing up to offer the Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its recently launched smartphone. The BlackBerry Priv, the Canadian company's first device to ever run an Android OS, is scheduled to be upgraded to version 6.0 in 2016, according to Android Central.
Although a particular release date was not given, it does indicate that BlackBerry is willing to commit to following through by giving a complete Android experience to its customers. The Priv has just been released in the United States, and AT&T is the first US carrier to offer it to subscribers. As many BlackBerry loyalists may already know, the new model sports a sliding version of the company's signature physical keyboard and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
