Leah Remini has taken a lot of flak for revealing sensitive information about the Church of Scientology and the A-List stars who have been involved in it, especially Tom Cruise, and ex-wife Katie Holmes, the Daily Mail reports.
Leah Remini has been treated as an outcast by the Church ever since she went public with her criticism leveled at the shady figures behind Scientology. And now she even plans to release a memoir that focuses on the evils of Scientology as "extremist religion."
The new autobiography, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, has been flagged by spokespersons of the Church as "regurgitated" statements that have long been debunked by the organization. Remini spoke of three decades of experience in the controversial religion.
In an official statement, the Church of Scientology has said that: "'Leah Remini knows the truth she conveniently rewrites in her revisionist history. The real story is that she desperately tried to remain a Scientologist in 2013, knowing full well she was on the verge of being expelled for refusing to abide by the high level of ethics and decency Scientologists are expected to maintain...She now regurgitates the tired myths the Church has repeatedly debunked."
In previous reports, Remini has admitted that representatives from Scientology once tried to isolate her from friend Jennifer Lopez during the wedding reception of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Remini has made claims that the reps were trying to get her friend Lopez to join the church and was doing it by separating her from her friend
Katie Holmes had previously released a public statement saying that Remini had acted in an unacceptable manner at her wedding. Holmes has since retracted the statement and has said that she regrets saying critical words towards Remini and that she only wishes nothing but happiness for her former friend.
In an interview, Remini wept over the recent statement, saying that Holmes divorced her husband to save her daughter Suri from the Scientology organization, a move that was reminiscent of what Remini has done herself. Of Holmes, she says, "She must have been through the same thing as I have, maybe more."
In a separate interview with People, Remini has said that she understands Kirstey Alley's backlash. Alley had previously called Remini a "bigot" and an "enemy" when she left the Scientology religion in 2013.
"I respect her beliefs and that it works for her, and you can also respect somebody who was in the church for 30-plus years who maybe had a different experience," Remini said.
