With China's state visit to Buckingham Palace now considered a smashing success, readers worldwide were left intrigued at how Jackie Chan suddenly emerged in pictures with Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The internationally-acclaimed movie actor certainly looked like the proverbial cat who got the cream when he stood beside Kate Middleton at Lancaster House, in London, where the distinguished guests of honor attended a cultural presentation that highlighted the creative and technological collaborations between China and the UK, the Daily Mail reports.
Kate looked like a prim plum rose in her plum colored lace number with matching plum velvet pumps, while Jackie Chan was a venerable gentleman in white, from the tips of his white patent shoes to his shoulders.
The event marked an opportunity for President Xi and his wife to marvel at the Chinese-British creativity and to witness the best of the British arts out on display. The distinguished guests had a sneak preview of a scene from the British hit show Poldark, which set in Cornwall.
While Kate has undoubtedly captured the interest of a global, it is clear that Kate is not the only fashion icon in the house.
Apparently Madame Peng herself is a fashion and cultural icon in her own native China. The Chinese first lady is a well-known folk singer in the mainland and has even gifted the Queen with two of her albums, the UK Mirror reports.
Besides her pop culture status, Madame Peng is a fashion guru whose style borders between the flashy and the flamboyant to a modern executive "Dragon Lady" look. The Chinese president's wife enjoys a level of popularity the same as the Duchess' in her native China.
It was unfortunate however that Madame Peng was photographed in a state of makeup malfunction during the Lord Mayor of London's banquet at London's Guildhall, sporting unsightly white powder all over her face.
The report says that Silica powder may be the culprit. While the powder gives a smooth finish, too much of it will appear in photographs, and apparently only shows up when the camera flash starts lighting up.
Later, Mr Xi joined the Prime Minister for a working lunch, with both parties hopeful that the state visit will secure trade deals and investment in infrastructure projects.
