Lamar Odom's health condition may be improving if recent reports and leaks are to be believed. The retired Lakers and Clippers star has been hospitalized and in a coma since last week. Odom awoke from his coma on Friday. He has reportedly regained situational awareness.
"He's still getting better little by little," an unknown source reported to Us Weekly. "The doctors are starting to talk about plans for what happens when he gets out and that's how rehab came up, but he still has a ways to go."
LA Times reports that Khloé Kardashian, Lamar's estranged wife, has made the decision to put Lamar in a drug rehabilitation program. Odom is expected to be moved to a rehab facility in Los Angeles sometime in the future.
Last Monday, the 35-year-old was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada. Afterward, he was rushed to a hospital in nearby Las Vegas. Officials there reported that the former NBA player had already ingested a dangerous cocktail of cocaine, alcohol, and herbal sexual stimulants. Lamar is still on dialysis after suffering kidney failure.
Various publications report that Khloé is still staying at the hospital with her husband. She was allegedly by his side when he awoke.
"As soon as Lamar wakes up, she rushes over to hold his hand," a source told People Magazine over the weekend. "She sleeps on a pullout bed next to Lamar."
Though she is technically still married to Lamar, Khloé had already filed for divorce two years ago. Prior to Odom's hospitalization, the divorce procedure was reaching the final stages. According to Hollywood Life, the troubled marriage was beset by Lamar's alleged history of alcohol and drug abuse. Khloé has continually been making medical decisions on behalf of Odom because that divorce was never finalized.
Those close to Lamar have largely avoided the limelight. Still, they have sent a few messages over social media.
"I have faith in you. I believe in the power of prayer and positive energy! Thank you all for your prayers! Lammy- I'm so happy Kendall & I could make you smile today! God is good," Odom's sister-in-law Kim Kardashian West wrote on Instagram. Along with the message, she posted an old photo of her dancing with a tuxedoed Odom at her sister's marriage reception.
Odom and Khloé married in 2009 after a month-long courtship. In December 2013, Khloé filed for divorce after Odom rapped about cheating on her. The divorce was dragged out for two years, during which it was nearly thrown out twice. In July, they finally signed the papers.
