Production for the sequel to the much-anticipated hit animated flick Frozen is already underway but the producers of the film are tight-lipped about the details of the projects.
But with the overwhelming success of the first Frozen movie, directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are under a lot of pressure to bring back one of the most beloved Disney stories to life the second time.
"We're working on the sequel right now," Buck confirmed to Fandango. However, Frozen 2 still has no official release date as of yet, he said. "Jen (Lee) and I are getting back in the room and we've got some cool ideas coming up."
But what's in store for the millions of fans of Frozen around the world. Buck stated, "I can't divulge anything. But for us, Jen and me, it's been so fun to get back in the room and be with these characters again. These characters are part of us -- both for Jen and me. Anna, Kristoff, Elsa, Olaf -- they're all parts of our personality, so it's fun to play with these characters again and sort of see where we can go next with them. Just like any characters that you love, to see them grow and to see what happens next."
Buck noted that Queen Elsa will have a different personality in Frozen 2 and they want to have more fun with her character in the sequel. Buck said, "[In Frozen] she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she's just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again. That's what was really good about the short -- we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality... you will see in the next one."
In a separate interview with MTV, Buck said Queen Elsa could also tackle social issues that will provide more insight into the queen's personality.
He said, "We have two very strong female leads in Frozen. We will keep that going in the next one. We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with. I think we're very aware of what is happening in society."
"I don't think any of us take [them] lightly, even though they can be very funny and entertaining, the messages that our movies have and the influence they can have on young people. When the kids [watch] them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity," Buck added.
The Telegraph also speculated some spoilers, including Olaf's significant upgrade in his role in Frozen 2 and may even feature a "Mrs. Olaf". An additional Olaf could prove to be financially beneficial for Disney in terms of merchandise sales.
"It has to happen. Not only for the plot, but for the merchandise," The Telegraph writes. "Olaf is one of the most beloved Disney sidekicks ever created, and with Anna and Kristoff romantically entangled, and Elsa happy ruling her kingdom and getting to grips with her ice powers, blossoming romance is in Olaf's court."
Frozen 2 is believed to be set for worldwide release in 2018. What do you think of these speculations?
