Apple's MacBook Pro 2016 release date may be unconfirmed, but specs rumors continue to surface on the web. Popular gossip includes the device's alleged retina display. Here is a rundown on the latest speculation so far.
Thinner Body, Skylake Processors Rumored
According to Neurogadget, the MacBook Pro 2016 will feature a redesigned thin body. Apple has been silent on how it will achieve this. However, the report predicted that it is possible to reduce the size using just a handful of USB-C ports, a jack for headphones and just one Thunderbolt port. Naturally, this prediction is based solely on theory. While interesting, Apple will have the final say over what the MacBook Pro 2016 will actually feature.
Another way to streamline the device's profile is to include Intel's new Skylake Core M processors. This is possible because Skylake does not need a bulkier fan assembly for cooling due to its heat-resistant capabilities. That means the MacBook Pro 2016 can be built much leaner than its predecessors. Hence, the notebook will find application amongst professionals needing a powerful tool that is easier on the back.
Hopefully, this rumor will turn out to be true for the sake of the user.
Will MacBook Pro 2016 have Retina Display?
At this time, the most current MacBook Pro 2015 comes with a Retina Display. Hence, the assumption amongst many in the rumor mill is that the 2016 MacBook Pro will come with the same thing.
Up to this point, Apple has included the Retina Display with some MacBooks bearing the "pro" designation. Not every MacBook Pro have Retina Display, such as the standard 13-inch MacBook Pro. That notebook is significantly cheaper than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Curiously, all 15-inch MacBook Pro models do have Retina Display.
Bear in mind, that the term "Retina" has nothing to do with "Retina HD", which is a feature exclusive to handsets such as the iPhone series. So, consumers will not find the term "Retina HD" being applied on MacBooks. The more official way of labeling will be MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
None of Apple's MacBook Air laptop series have Retina technology installed. Even so, this has not stopped rumors purporting that there will be a Retina MacBook Air in the future. This seems unlikely considering that MacBook Air has been targeted at the more budget-minded consumers. Having a Retina Display will drive up prices to a point that may deter potential buyers.
All three current models of the MacBook Pro are still available for purchase at Apple's online store.
