Tesla Motors described the new 2016 Tesla Model X as the SUV uncompromised. In its official website, Tesla said, "Model X is the safest, fastest and most capable sports utility vehicle in history. Standard with all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery providing 250 miles of range, Model X has ample seating for seven adults and all of their gear. And it's ludicrously fast, accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour in as quick as 3.2 seconds."
Tesla Motors is also claiming that its Model X SUV is the greenest seven-passenger car in the market, reported Car and Driver. The new 2016 Tesla Model X SUV comes in two variants; the P90D Signature and the sportier P90D Founder. Both cars are powered by a 259-hp electric motor that powers its front wheels and a 503-hp rear-mounted motor provide power to the rear wheel for the for all-wheel drive model.
The P90D can reach a top speed of 155mph and reach 60mph in just 3.8 seconds. The Model X has a 250-mile range for those who want to take a long drive. It added that the 2016 Tesla Model X maintains the same the high-tech cabin from the Model S and the "falcon wing" doors from the concept.
Tesla executive Elon Musk commented on the "falcon wing" rear door, "I think we got a little carried away." He said that although the winged doors and the one-post seats offer some challenges in terms of design, they also add big functionality. The winged door allows for rear-seat entry more accessible because of the pedestals supporting the middle seats motor back and forth. They also allow more space to store more things underneath the seats.
Musk added, "I'm not sure anyone should really make this car. There are far more things there than is needed to sell it." Maybe, but it's hard to fault a car for being too interesting, the report added.
Even before the 2016 Tesla Model X SUV roll out the streets, there are currently more than 30,000 orders for the vehicle, the report said with waiting time between nine and 12 months before delivery.
Tesla is currently offering only the two versions with the P90D Signature priced at $132,000 and the faster, sportier P90D Founder will set you back $142,000 that includes the Ludicrous mode. Musk added that the general price premium versus a Model S will be about $5000, and less-expensive versions will come later.
The non-P 90D is expected to be priced less than $100,000 and that a 70D will cost about $80,000. All Model Xs will be all-wheel drive, at least initially. Smaller batteries are coming later and perhaps two-wheel-drive versions, as well.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model X all-electric luxury SUV is eligible for the $25,000 HUMMER tax break said Green Car Report. Section 179 of the deduction rule allows large capital purchases to be deducted as a business expense, rather than the usual amortization over specified number of years.
As Autoblog confirmed this week, the Model X itself weighs 5,441 pounds, so its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) will almost certainly exceed 6,000 pounds.
Alexis Georgeson of Tesla Motors confirmed that expectation and told Autoblog that a deduction "could be taken for up to $25,000 of the purchase price."
