Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have had to put up with a barrage of negative publicity since both came out in the industry more than a decade ago, but one thing is for sure: they are still very much in each other's lives.
This was evident during Selena's recent bout with lupus and the revelation that Bieber stuck with her through it all.
Gomez tells Perez Hilton that although the disease ravaged her for three years, she wasn't exactly ready to tell the whole world about her chemotherapy and felt that it was more acceptable for the public to think that she was stored away in rehab for substance abuse. Why this seemed like better publicity than having an autoimmune disease for the young sister is unknown.
In the report, however, she says that it was because she didn't want to have every aspect of her life available to the public eye. ""I think it was just very complicated because I didn't understand and then that was something that I did want to keep private until my whole life suddenly wasn't private," she said.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Life reports that Bieber often kept Gomez company while she was recuperating from the dreaded disease. The report says he would often ring her on Skype and sing songs that he made up for her, one source revealed.
The report further claims that The Biebs would go out of his way and do outlandishly kind and romantic things for the former flame, such as taking her favorite dishes to her from expensive restaurants in Beverly Hills.
While some would cite that this is nothing more than friendly behavior from two former flames who have turned into friends, others would disagree.
Hollywood Life further reveals that it's not the first time for Selena and the Bieb to connect. Early in May this year they were spotted hanging out at Hillsong Church. Reports have made a huge deal of this instance as Selena had previously tried to avoid her ex in more public places such as the Met Gala where Bieber pulled an all gal-pal entourage.
Nevertheless, Bieber has been known for saying that Selena has always pushed him on a spiritual level. Bieber credits the church for providing the pastoral care he needed during extremely difficult times while Gomez has been vocal about her faith. It is not difficult to see how the church may have also played a large role in helping Gomez cope with her autoimmune disease.
