The 10th generation Honda Civic Si is seen to "out horsepower" the current-generation Acura ILX, with all-new turbocharged features and some, if not the greatest, standard featured passive and active safety features in the compact car segment. The 2016 Civic Si has retained the 6-speed manual model while adding turbo power, reports indicated.
In a report, the Chronicle Herald said the reinvented and redesigned 2016 Honda Civic Si has not a single trace of the outgoing model, the 9th generation 2016 Civic Sedan.
"This 10th-generation Civic is quite simply the most ambitious remake we've ever done," said Dave Gardner, senior vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "It was created with the same innovative spirit that helped established Civic, back in 1973 and subsequently, as the benchmark in its class and Canada's best-selling car for 17 consecutive years."
As stated, the new 2016 Honda Civic Si will have two brand new engines, including the first turbocharged Honda engine that will make the new coupe an edge in comparison with Chevrolet, Toyota, Volkswagen, Mazda, Nissan models of its class.
The new engines are also coupled with redesigned transmissions, as well as a refinement-enhancing and fuel-saving Continually Variable Transmission, that pushes fuel efficiency to a higher level.
Buyers can choose from a two-liter four-cylinder, or a 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine for the next generation 2016 Honda Civic. The new Honda coupe is intended for buyers with good taste with its high-end safety technology that is usually found in flagship luxury sedans but at an affordable price.
The 2016 Honda Civic includes a Collision Mitigation Braking system, Road Departure Mitigation and, for the first time in a Honda, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, reports said.
Honda engineers also redesigned the body of the 10th generation Civic and is now 25 percent more torsionally rigid than its predecessor. The 2016 Honda Civic Si is 12 percent more aerodynamic, offers a quieter ride and improved cabin air sealing by 58%.
Honda Civic Type-R Will Not Be Available Soon
According to Torque News, the much-anticipated Honda Civic European Type-R will not be sold in North America anytime soon.
The report said that the 2016 Honda Civic Type-R "destined for North America markets will not be based on the current European Type-R platform. The 2016-2017 Civic Type-R hatchback will be powered with an American manufactured 2.0 Liter Earth Dreams Turbo gasoline engine, and based on Honda's designed in Torrance, California, World-Compact-Platform," it said.
It was learned that the 2016 Honda Civic Type-R will be sold below $40,000 in the U.S.
