The ninth iteration of the X-Men franchise, the X-Men: Apocalypse will be featuring the most powerful mutant yet that will pit Professor Xavier's X-Men team to save the human race and the world.
In a press release issued to announce the partnership between 20th Century Fox and Mars Chocolate for the cross-promotional sponsorship of X-Men: Apocalypse, Marvel has described Apocalypse as the most powerful mutant in the X-Men universe, having accumulated the powers of other mutants, making him immortal and invincible.
The synopsis of X-Men: Apocalypse reads: "Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible.
"Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.
"As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction."
Meanwhile, M&M'S X-Men: Apocalypse merchandise will be made available in the months leading up to the movie's release date on May 16, 2016. The partnership between M&M'S Chocolate Candies and 20th Century Fox's upcoming motion picture event X-Men: Apocalypse, makes M&M'S the exclusive chocolate and confectionary promotional partner of the film, which opens Friday, May 27 and is considered one of the most widely anticipated movies of 2016.
"This deal truly brings together two of the biggest superheroes of Hollywood - M&M'S and X-Men," said Berta de Pablos-Barbier, Vice President, Marketing, Mars Chocolate North America. "X-Men is one of the most popular and thrilling franchises in movie history, and we like to say M&M'S are the official chocolate candies of the movies. Together, we hope to make the experience even more fun for movie lovers."
Based on the synopsis, it seems the Magneto will continue to make the same mistakes and not learn from his previous experience. And yet again, Professor X will have to keep his unholy alliance with former friends Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Raven to team up with his X-Men mutants to save the day.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be the ninth in the X-Men series - including The Wolverine - and is the third in the prequel series. It will be set in 1983, a decade after the events in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in cinemas on 16 May 2016.
