Since Chip Kelly began working as head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, there have been speculations that he will soon leave the NFL and return to college football. He was previously rumored to be coaching the University of Texas several months ago. Now, the talk has turned to the University of South Carolina (USC). Several reports suggest that the USC Trojans might be looking to ditch its current coach in favor of Kelly.
Kelly has been in the hot seat since Philadelphia lost three of its first four games in the current season. On the other hand, the Trojans coach Steve Sarkisian is also under fire in the wake of his team's loss to Washington on Thursday.
The USC was expected to win the national title but has since underperformed with a 3-2 record. If the USC coach would be sacked, plenty of possible replacements are said to be in line to take over the team. However, South Carolina reportedly has one person in mind already. Sports Illustrated recently posted an article that gives fans an interesting clue about who could be Sarkisian's successor.
"And that will certainly include Eagles coach Chip Kelly. USC had a strong interest in Kelly when it hired Sarkisian. Not even halfway through his second season, there's a worry if seven-win Sark will even get there. Things can get a lot worse for USC (3-2) with upcoming games at Notre Dame, home against Utah and then at California," SI.com's Pete Thamel wrote on Friday.
Dan Wolken of USA Today also has the same conclusion, pointing out that "Kelly is a misfit with the Eagles. He'd be a perfect fit at USC."
The Eagles also has an upcoming match versus the New Orleans Saints this weekend. The team's latest official injury report gives NFL fans a hint on who could be present in the field or not.
Cornerback Byron Maxwell and offensive tackle Jason Peters, who recently returned to practice after missing it out on Wednesday, have been listed as "Probable" and "Questionable," respectively.
Peters left the match against Washington last week after injuring his quadriceps. Maxwell missed practice because of a similar quadricep issue. Both players were full participants on Thursday's practice and said that they will be playing with the rest of the Eagles for the upcoming game against the Saints.
